Thanks @jdog
, it's really helpful and interesting that C3 is not too far behind in terms of sound quality.

I dunno 7cents... it kinda reads to me like the 800 is beating up on the c3 pretty good lol

I hear ya. When I first ordered the 770, I was scouring the web looking for rockboxing tidbits. If it's been done for the 960, it should be easy enough to get done for the 770.

It would be awesome, but tbh, I love the SQ of the 770, and I have gotten used to it's somewhat primitive UI, so I'm good. At least the 770 has "auto shutoff" and "resume play" that the C3 doesn't have, so I'm happy enough. I'm not sure I could handle how happy a rockboxed 770 would make me!

Actually I were also looking for the rockboxability for the ihifi 770 as you said it would be really easy after 960 rockbox release but after my research biggest problem against rockbox firmware for 770 is touch pad, if xuelin shares the touch pad driver it seems possible to rockbox or we should wait  somebody who has 770 with really great knowledge about reverse engineering and free time for that.

I don't really see the really big chance rockbox for 770s (due to touchpad) but for 800 it will release in couple month I think by somebody from russian forums (but first it needs to take attention).

Well, speaking of firmware upgrades....  Xuelin now is announcing that there will be firmware upgrades for the 770s and the 960 sometime this month (April 2015).  The translation is a little hard to follow for all of the upgrades, but it looks like that the new firmwares for the 770s and 960 are being moved up to match the features already on the 800.  While this is good news, I hope they will continue to add more upgrades soon for all players, including the 800.  They do not give an exact date for the firmware release, so I will keep my eyes open and let you know...  They have also posted all the current firmware links for the 960, 770, 770c, 800 and 812v2....  To check this out go to i-hifi.com and look under the News and Events section....

Sorry guys, I got misled by the nomenclature that Xuelin is using for its firmware upgrades; they refer to the new upgrades as "old" for some reason.  The firmware upgrades are already available on their website for the 770s, the 960, and I suppose the 812v2 and 760 as well (although I have only really looked into the firmware for the 770s so far.  The upgrades for the 770s now offer a line out function and 2 different power levels for the HOs.  You can also fine tune volume control, and there is a new way to lock/unlock screen.  There is a way to build a playlist, but only from songs on your internal storage.  Along with a few other changes, these modifications basically bring the firmware of the 770s to same basic level of the firmware on the 800.  But, still no gapless playback, no album art (the new screen displays keep getting a bit more odd), and still no improvement in file format support.  Oh well, time to send them a few more e-mails....

That would be great if someone could rockbox the 800; this would clearly elevate the value of this fine player.  The Xuelin players I have are all really nice music players and the sound quality is excellent on all of them.  The firmware offerings from Xuelin at this point just don't allow these fine DAPs to achieve more of their potential...

  how the whole combo sounds?

Perfect.
Natural, neutral, open; more microdetails and soundstage.
ihifi 800 support WAV 24bit 192kHz(make by AIMP 3.60's converter, settings "24 bit, 192kHz, Stereo"; file with settings "As Source" not read) - magic sound in live performances, very clean hear the singing a lot of people in the stadium!
Aune B1 - true neutral amp. It does not change the sound of an audio source. It adds no warmth, no bass, no brightness. He gently improves the sound of ihifi 800.
ihifi 800+Aune B1 - perfect combo.
By the way, ihifi presented amp Class A - ihifi A100
(ihifi 800 - 100x49x16mm, ihifi A100 - 110x64x13.5mm)

so guys, any way to play 24/96? I have Tb of Flac in hi-res. If not it is nonsense to buy...

Given its overall size, I would think it might be more practical to use IEMs with the iHiFi 800, but that being said, it drives my Sennheiser HD558s (impedance 50 ohms) well...

Thanks for your reply. However, I think I'll be going with the sony players instead, for their better functionality and UI...

Guys, please help!
Can ihifi-800 be Rockbox?
Or how to upgrade firmware?
The problem is 64GB microSD card Sony class10 will not work. Tried FAT32 (800 sees the card but doesn't play any Flac) and other options, nothing helped yet.
thanks!
