How can there be hiss? They claimed they put everything in SoundQuality, that's why they didn't care about a case, the packaging or the UI. And then there is still hiss?

On the other hand...people also claim the Sony A15/17 has background hiss. I never noticed any.

It's now available in Singapore at AVOne. Preorder special 1399 SGD, normal retail price 1499 SGD which is 200 cheaper than the Cowon P1.
I am positively surprised, was expecting it to be heavily overpriced as so many other items here in Singapore.

Still might buy it in Germany for 899 EUR when I am there next time as I can claim back the 19% VAT then.

I got mine for a pre-order price of can$1200.00.  Forgot to ask what the regular price was, but I'll take it.  But, MAN, our dollar blows right now.  A year and a half ago, my Xs were much closer to the US$.

Some people say they get hiss from sensitive IEMs from the Hugo, where I don't happen to hear any: certainly nothing to write home about.  And I was using the 846s at the time.  I'm not worried that it will bother me.

I just told someone yesterday about the gold almost looking like brass.  It's a better look than I thought it would be!

The Hiss does not apply to all headphones. TG334 hiss on almost anything except amps that are specifically made for IEM. example, Pico Slim.

Q1PR hiss is similar to all those great sounding amps/Dac out there like Hugo, to be more precise, the hiss is lower than chord Hugo (using Noble K10 custom). I notice a sense of space rather than a hiss like the old RX3 or Centrance M8. I did not notice any hiss until I unplug the IEM without music playing.

When music is playing, even at extremely low volume, the hiss (sense of space) is not audible anymore.

For completely silent background, AK240 is about the best out there. Dead quiet even if plug and unplug to look for it, I can't find any hiss at all. BUT.. after a whole night of listening to Q1PR, I am not sure now if AK240 sound better in any way than Q1PR. I can;t comment right now as my AK240 is under repair, I am speaking based on memory as I listen to AK240 balance daily for more than a year. The Q1PR does not sound like a portable amp, I suspect to beat the Q1PR, I will need to pull in the big guns, the infamous Zana DUEX desktop amps.

Anyway back to critical listening.

the hiss on qp1r is only for my iem (fitear tg334), and isn't worse than say on plugging it into a Hugo. there's no hiss whatsoever when using the oppo pm3 on the qp1r(on high gain).

i guess it must be my tg334 that's tuned to be a bit too sensitive/efficient.., i've also read that others 334 doesn't hiss, some do, on various amps, despite the approx 45ohms impedance.. anyways, doesn't bother me much with the level of sound quality i'm getting out of the qp1r..
and the tg334 sound really sweet paired with the qp1r.

for an all in one device as a player and amp, i don't need to stack and i'm getting better sound than what i stacked before(oppo ha2 and akjr, which was no slouch at all, very good synergy),

i'm very very happy with the QP1R. there's something special about it's sound that's hard to explain, and i'm not good putting words together describing any audio stuff. but everybody who tried it today commented that it sound really special. very transparent and clean power, that's how i would sum it up. you just have to experience it yourself to see(hear) what's it about.

only thing i wish it has is the feature to play all folder in one go, i like to turn on shuffle this way, let the player decide what song to play and enjoy. hopefully Questyle will bring this feature on the next firmware update.

You aren't alone. I also have hiss on my W60s. It's super faint and disappears when music is played, even at lowest of volumes. It strikes me odd that it happens but definitely not a deal breaker. Sounds good and the noise is non existent once we get into the music.
As for cases, I need to find a sleeve using Horween leather or something.
The issue about the box not being "high quality" is personally moot. Part of the money going to the packaging and box stuffs. I would rather save money and push it to the product. It's the same with Noble. They stuck stuff in an Otterbox case and call it a day.

My first post here on headfi, i got the qp1r and it is amazing on both of my iem and headphone! They are fitear tg334 and oppo pm3. There is a bit of hiss on the tg334 regardless any gain setting, but not noticeable at all when the music plays.

Still running it on the first couple hours now and it is really really clear sounding. Ultra tight grip on all the freq range. Cant imagine how it would sound like after burn in or running in. Amazing stuff.

Very neutral with a very slight touch of warmness in the mids and vocals.

Very detailed yet not harsh at all. Reminds me of the hugo for my computer desktop setup.

Can't wait for the firmware update to support folder playthrough so i could choose play all under 'flac' folder and shuffle everything.

Hiss? I understand why ... I was just hoping no hiss with my ear or headphone options ... This is just something that distracts and annoys me

Exactly. Hiss is definitely a deal braker for me. But I would like to read more feedback to be sure.

All amplifiers have a noise floor, with all the headphones (and IEMs) we have tested so far, it has been below the threshold of hearing. Assuming the hiss is not there when the tg334 is not connected to the unit (an acoustical effect cause by the IEMs), then the combination of the tg334 and zeroshiki's hearing ability have found that noise floor. I have also noted that hiss is a common complaint with the tg334 due to their extreme efficiency.

Everything has thermal noise. It's so low here as to be negligible and if I really listen for it, it's lower than other DAPs not noted for any background noise. Folks are reading way too much into a comment by someone who is very happy and it was into a very efficient IEM that has a bump in the upper ranges to balance it's warmth. Good luck finding something quieter.

Here's from the review section for the TG334.
Cons:
“Sensitivity so high it requires a clean source to keep hissing away”
and the fellow that commented can't hear it in use.

Folks need to chill.

The device will never be perfect, but Questyle has succeeded in creating one of the best DAPs on the market, according to the reviews. If its not the best, its definitely the best in price to performance. So long as the noise doesn't hurt the audio when playing, I think its another moot point. I do notice noise when the conditions are perfect and are extreme, but that's nothing to complain about. If you heard the noise floor on every IEM, then I could understand the point. So you're right.

As for the sound, its fantastic. I'm not sure if its actually the parts burning in or brain burn in but it sounds fantastic as the day goes by. I'm hearing some interesting things, even from my MP3s. Talking about taking my W60s to a new level. As in, keeping the same smooth sound but making everything clear. The details I can get out of is superb.

Is there really any DAPs that have zero noise floor? Let's be practical here. I don't mean to offend anyone so take it as it stands.

I have got 200gb x2 Mico SD cards and I hope Questyle will fix this in the following updates in the play by category.

The current firmware goes like this

1) Genre > Tracks
2) Artist > Tracks

So for Jazz genre, I have to search through thousands of tracks as all the albums are lump together. My thumb has been spinning all day long and it got burnt out pretty fast.

Please add

1) Genre -> Album > tracks
2) Artist > Album > Tracks

This is what the old Ipod and AK models is at. Its pretty fast. So if I look for Diana Krall, I will get 8 of her albums and I can pick one to play. Right now, when I click Diana Krall, I saw 200 tracks of list. I have to spin my thumb many many rounds to get to halfway. I just stick a rubber pad on the wheel as my finger keep slipping.

Hopefully the next firmware will address this, as it makes the experience really good - like the old Ipod models. - Thanks

I shouldn't have even posted. It's a non issue I've extended.

It's not even your fault. I wanted to direct it to those who were complaining that it was a "deal-breaker" or what have you. That should be discussed or people will get impressions it has a high noise floor. It's worth talking about none the less. I just don't want to see it escalated to the point where it sounds like a big problem. Of which it was not.
