Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

Havnt tried the PM-3, and I have a HE-400, it blows the HE-400 out of the water, into outer space, and straight into the sun. IMO

The HE-400 and HE-400i are different beasts. Never heard the HE-400i, but I loved my HE-400. That set is 100% bass slam. Blew my mind.

I don't like comparing open and sealed cans, but the PM-3 is a very even sounding headphone. I call it a sealed HD-600 with planar bass response. Maybe a slight tilt in the FR downwards, raising the bass and dipping the treble a hair. Polite sounding, nothing would possibly sound offensive on them, if a little subdued. The EL-8 is much more open past that 6kHz anti-node and IMO is a much cleaner, fun sound. If the EL-8 are remarkable, it's because it isn't too often a headphone so bright and clean is not remotely harsh.

400i is a much better headphone in terms of sonic balance but 400 is still better if you want the bass, really two different sounds, they both do great for different sound signatures.

At 500 hours they hit "Angelic". lol

Listening to this on these is angelic to me already.

Ghost Love Score, both Tarja and Floor versions just stun me on these.

Also playing some deep bass through these was quite jarring in a good way. These do go deeeeeeep, and can pound your head in.

That is a nice song. Who is the actual artist?

awesome find ^_^ i was going to try to use siri to discover, but that would mean taking off the el8......and i dont wanna. Lol

You are so right. This song does sound Amazing on the EL-8O! I already like these headphones!  Time to let them burn for a little while I continue to work. Then do some critical listening tonight.  I think Amos Lee (similar voicing IMHO, will sound equally as nice on these).

I like them enough im considering the Sine for gym/walks, and such (once my bank account recovers) ive never heard a headphone that covers so many genres, and make everything shine. Hell NIN Closer you dont just hear that bass, you freakin feel it. Even at low volume.

I too have been looking at the Sine. Since I sold off the PM-3 (and actually miss them now). I might pick up the Sine in a few weeks (I too need to pay off the card before getting more toys).

I really liked PM-3's bass but the problem was treble was too subdued. I wish its treble was livelier.

Just tried these with the Aune B1. Low current, high current, didnt really change much from being direct driven from the iphone 6 + so unless you have a really crappy source device. The El-8 doesnt need a amp at all.
I've noticed one thing tho. The cups are well sealed, to the point if you shift the cups the volume reduced for a second, as if the driver is inhibited from moving until the pressure equalizes. I hope this isnt bad for the driver. It only happens like if i lift a cup up, and set it back down, or maybe its my ear? Havnt had another headphone do this.
It isnt a loose wire, other movements would cause the attenuation. So I think the ear space is literally sealed. Which might explain how this headphone blocks a bit of outside noise even though its a open back.

I didn't get the same result. I tried out of my Vali 2, and it sounds Great! Out of my internal sound card (which is a Gaming Motherboard with "Audiophile" separated section for it), it sounds decent. Little less lively. I tried it out of my Galaxy Note 3, and it sounded cleaner than the motherboard output, but a little less power (I have added +5v from PSU for headphone out power). I then tried with the SGN3 again with my DacMagic XS, and it sounded much better. Still, the Vali 2 made it sound the best.  Now, none of the sources made them sound bad. I just found that with amping, they had more reserve energy on tap for those explosive lows or cleaner highs.
