Hopefully they put their orthos in headphones that shape and get away from the extremely uncomfortable design they've been using. I haven't heard or used any of the "i" series yet, but the older models are only a small upgrade from grados in terms of comfort.

Does anyone want to guess the price without doing any research, cheaters).

My guess is $2499 and with the amp I assume they'll be selling with it considering they're going to be competing with the next Sennheiser, I'll put the whole combo at $4299.

The next Sennheiser is as real as anti-gravity boots. And if Sennheiser releases an electrostat (for their 70th anniversary for example), we know how much it will cost lol ...

I actually know how much it will be, but I don't think I'm at liberty to say.

Let's just say it'll be higher than your guess. Much higher.

I hope (but doubt) the price will be justified.

Guess it won't be a "Huge Success" ... Not at astronomical prices. It'll just be something hyper rich hobbyists buy, but most will go to collectors who barely ever listen to their headphones, and keep them in fancy boxes and displays. At least at $5K, STAX SR-009 is actually within reasonable reach for somebody who actually wants one.

On the other hand, something like the HD800 can sell nearly 35,000 units, and is just as carefully made and assembled by hand and tested thoroughly, but still sell for $1.5K. I re-purchased an HD800 just two weeks ago, and my serial number is just a few tens above 34000.

I was told there would be an amp to match, but I don't know if these will be Stax bias compatible (and so able to run on any Stax amp), or if you have to buy the matching amp. The biggest chunk of the price will be the amp, so IF you can just get the headphones it wont be nearly as expensive.

I really hope its stax bias compatible. Every HFM amp I've heard has been terrible. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is a true Jade successor.

Link to the announcement in China today: http://www.headphoneclub.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=292356#lastpost. It is still a single side magnet planar design.
