Introducing Lotoo PAW Gold

Welcome, please do share the iem/headphone you are using with your dap and report your findings if time allows.

Here is a little update on my behalf. For me lotoo certainly carries a reference worthy status but lately I have been enjoying calyx M sound more.

Auditioned the Lotoo Paw Gold with Noble Kaiser 10 Universal (and Wagnus Sieve Sheep cable).  Found it detailed yet smooth and quite analog but still falls short of the Tera Player in terms of sheer musicality.  Affirms my opinion that Tera is my end game (until something truly better sounding comes along).

I can imagine, NOS R2R chips sound excellent when properly applied, the same story is with MA9 DAP, also incredible device in my book. As for SQ of PAW Gold, well, it really starts to shine once DSD is played. I won't state here it's the best one out there, I hadn't a fair chance to compare it to AK240. But to my ears it sounds exceptionally good with DSD. M.Oldfields Tubular Bells are incredible piece of music to listen to in DSD, jaw dropping performance. I'm listening to it with Heir Audio 8.A + PAW Gold and I'm constantly amazed by that sound. It's fair to say I know all DAP-s on the market, except DX100 and Tera.

DSD is another thing, on right material and with right DAP and headphones it sounds very musical and organic, more analogue in comparison to PCM. So my basic question is: have you had a chance to listen to it with DSD tracks or PCM ones?

Cheers,

This PAW Gold seems very attractive...
- Very beautiful...
- 500mw output !
- PMEQ...
- etc..

The screen is a touch screen ? because if not, how do you move the frequencies, Q etc..on the the PMEQ. ?
And second question...Does the order of the folders appears as many others asiatic products (Colorfly C4, Ihifi 960..), in the order of the copy ? I had the problem with my C4 and folders, diles didn't appaered in alphabetic order.

Thanks by advance ...

My brain is confused, some say it sounds better than my 901, yet my eyes see possibly the ugliest bit of audio ever. To me it looks like a $29.99 model, the gold looks cheap and nasty.

Sorry you've got me confused too. We're talking about sound or visual?

Good point !! Thanks !

On the PMEQ, you can choose only one frequency to move ? or you can change two or three frequencies together (one frequency for bass, and one for the treble for example) ?

I believe you can adjust the different frequencies individually. I personally prefer the "Headphone" setting of the PMEQ

Recently tested the Lotoo Paw Gold.  It is a beauty to behold and also to hold in one's hand.  The Lotoo is great if you are looking for a well built gadget that is ergonomic enough and feature rich.

If  all you really care about is the sound, then the Lotoo is nowhere near the Tera.  It lacks the naturalness, ease, analogue and organic characteristics of the Tera.  It suffers from the typical aggressive treble sheen associated with digital.  This was acceptable as an inherent flaw of digital until one heard the Tera where this was quite effectively banished.

On the Lotoo, the aggressive treble could be mitigated using the EQ presets.  But why bother when the Tera beats it flat without any EQ.

Products like the Tera embody confidence, single mindedness and integrity in its conception and execution.  Music players are meant to reproduce sound at the highest level of resolution in a musically involving way.  All other considerations are secondary.

The Lotoo Paw Gold makes for a very pretty paper weight in my opinion.

Tera is the end game for me until Charles comes up with something new and improved.  I have 2 Teras to ensure that I don't waste any money on baubles masquerading as state of the art music players.
