I don't have the AK100 anymore, but within memories the AK sounds very musical, colored to give a fun signature that works well with most non-analitycal set of cans, iems and supposedly ciems.

On the other side, the X3II is on the neutral side, even if at first I found it "warm" with my Mi Headphones , but after some serious sessions I came to the conclusion that it doesn't pair well with this dap.

I can't tell much about ciems, but considering that my Shure 846 is ultra sensitive, I confirm that it sounds awesomely good :grinning:

For the cost of the X3II compared to the AK100mkii you can get a very nice set of cans to go with the X3II for the same cost (or less) as the AK100

I'm thinking of buying a 2nd so there's only a hundred bucks different between the two DAPs.

No. HIdizs AP100 has the same coax out.

Thanks.

Okay so then there are two devices. And it looks like I just tried the only available cable. And it has a loose connection. Or the player has one.

Is that a known problem with the coax out?

There are more than that you can just google for DAPs with coaxial out and you will find iBasso, DX50, DX90, Cayin N6 and others offering the same coax out.

But since there is no official standard for 3.5mm coax out, you need to check if the cable works properly or use the supplied adapter cable.

Cheers.

Notification regarding the DAC driver for X3 2nd gen for Windows

You may have noticed that we have phased out the previous 1.61 driver and updated to a new version 3.34 driver for the X players' USB DAC function in Windows.

Unfortunately, due to a technical issue this new DAC driver is not compatible with the present firmware for the X3 2nd gen.

We should be officially releasing a new firmware that is compatible any day now.

For now, this is the beta firmware that works with the new DAC driver
https://www.dropbox.com/s/sz5yq77erlp3yeg/X3%202nd%20gen%20FW%28new%20DAC%20beta%29.zip?dl=0

and the driver itself
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qqz14rnt6at8q1o/FiiO%20USB%20DAC%20Driver%20v3.34.0.zip?dl=0

This new driver should install much more effortlessly than the previous driver, not least because it has a verified driver signature for windows 8 and 10. :)

Some updates:

The beta firmware supporting the new DAC driver version 3.34 has been updated to X3 FW 1.45:

On the other hand, the old 1.61 DAC driver is available for download here and is compatible with older firmware:

Best regards,
Joe

The search function is still very very much broken in 1.45. When you search for a track, it searches by filename and not the title tag. because of this, searching is seriously useless and very broken. It needs to be fixed like yesterday. There's no need having a search feature that doesn't work in any useful way.

I lost the supplied adapter cable, that's why I was asking if anyone knows a properly working cable.

Question: What would be a good reason to upgrade the firmware to 1.45? As far as I have read, 1.44 is overall better. (I have not personally tested it myself).
