The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

New here and just got my X3II, currently listening to Bob Marley "Legend" FLAC... coming from an Ipod Classic... the X3II is just very special. I am extremely happy with the sound and I am using modest Sure SE215's. Now, here comes my superfluous question: where can I find themes for the device? I specially like the "Analog 2" theme, any suggestions? Many thanks!

I'm pretty sure there have been some custom themes posted throughout this thread, but FiiO has their own thread, as well, that may or may not have a custom theme section for the X3ii.  I know that their are custom theme threads over there for the other devices, so I would imagine you might find it there.  Also, you might want to look over at FiiO's own website; they have a forum section and I've seen themes posted their, as well.

Anybody knows how to get rid of the "USB PID" on the top left?

The beta fw seems to have interesting features but this banner is hiding my volume level, is there any option to turn this off please?

About to load my recently acquired 200GB card with my library. This device is spectacular, I really do not understand the complaints, I even like the GUI (we'll see after I load all my music though, hopefully is not going to get slow).

I didn't know that a 200GB card worked. If I had known I would've bought one! Let me know if it goes according to plan.

Go halfway down this page http://www.head-fi.org/t/743704/the-fiio-x3-2nd-gen-ex-x3k-x3ii-thread-192k-24b-cs4398-native-dsd-usb-dac-with-lo-and-inline-remote/7170#post_12373251   and look for Zweisteins post, he made a custom theme that makes the text on the X3ii much bolder and uses high contrast colors. Ive been using it for about a week and it has made the X3 much easier to use. It would be great if we could get RELIC to convert one of his awesome X5ii themes for the X3ii

Thanks for the compliment, but I don't own an X3ii so there's no way for me to test the different coordinates and image sizes. At this time I won't be converting my themes to any other FiiO DAP. If another user who owns both wants to convert the themes over that's fine with me as long as the credit is given where credit is due. Warning: the image creation was fairly involved.

any advice for an amp that pairs well with x3ii and sounds good with Grado?

im considering these three:

1-C&C BH2

2-Fiio e12 mont blanc

3- Fiio e11k (A3)

im leaning towards fiio e11k, but will it provide better clarity and SQ for grado headphones?

im open for any other amp advice too

Edit: i also own Philips SHP9500 which i use regularly too

Hello thepooh,

The USB PID only appears in the beta beta 1.44 firmware I uploaded along with the new USB DAC driver. You may go back to the actual 1.44beta here http://www.head-fi.org/t/770863/official-x3-2nd-gen-beta-firmware-thread-fw1-44-library-search-replaygain-high-speed-usb-dop-d2p to get rid of the USB PID tag, however it won't be compatible with the new USB DAC driver.

Best regards,
Joe

I don't use the X3 as a DAC so I can't comment on that portion.  This update must, as stated, just be for that feature only.  USB OTG is not present.  Version still states 1.44 beta.  All I see different at the moment is the red text "USB PID" in the upper left corner at all times.  Thanks for the continued support Joe.

Thank you for confirming that the OTG is still not present.

Unfortunately, from what I've been told, FW1.4 will be the last firmware version that has USB OTG functionality (which admittedly has always been patchy). It has been ditched in favor of making USB storage and USB DAC functions more reliable, is the official word. In the future there will even be hardware revisions of the X3 2nd gen that are not compatible with FW1.4 :(

I have mine paired with the Fiio A3, and love it. Provides good punch, that extra power when needed, and the bass switch comes in handy when I switch between different phones. I really like the portability of both together, and the combination works well sound-wise to me.

It is hard to improve the x3ii, sound-wise, but IMO, I think the A3 just compliments it nicely. Hard for me to put analytics to it, my old ears aren't the best anymore, and I don't have proper testing equipment...it just sounds good. And for $50, the A3 is hard to beat.
