SONY NW-ZX2

Planning to get a 2TB wifi hdd portable for portable n travel use.
So far had tested a friend WD brand. So far I am contented..
Not happy : the files are display in folders only, no cover arts..
Looking for apps that can display the hdd library in full blown cover arts.
Any suggestions..

Looking at Plex, does Plex have their own built-in media player?
Would prefer the Sony default player..

running to 0 percent is higly not recommended...due.to this some devices.just shuts itself down when 5-10%. if anything you should recharge when you can

Running to 0% is indeed quite bad for Li-Ion batteries. However, in this day and age, where there is almost always some sort of software between the battery and the end user, even when the OS says "0", it typically means 5-10% of the battery capacity physically remains in the cells.

I'd recommend the following, if anyone is interested in reading what I would consider a fairly authoritative write-up on Li-Ion battery care:

It's no big deal if you do it once. You just don't want to do it all the time. This can help Android track the battery more accurately.

This is actually recommended

And since I was reading it. They said 500 charge cycles = 5 years 6 months approximately or life :D....now how long will our OSCON and POSCAP last ?

Maybe I do have a defective unit. Battery is sub par and fast forward and reverse functions using external buttons do not work. They only skip songs. I cannot find anything that would turn this function On or off. It should be the same on every player, and so far everyone else seems to have this function.

running it to 0 does not do that, you basically probably killed something int he memory or alike that's related with the battery.   even one time is highly not recommended.  configuring the cause or factory reset is the way to go.

It does look to be a defective unit. When in doubt ! Return for a replacement

3: Allow partial discharges and avoid full ones (usually)

Unlike NiCad batteries, lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep-discharge cycles are not required. In fact, it's better for the battery to use partial-discharge cycles.

There is one exception. Battery experts suggest that after 30 charges, you should allow lithium-ion batteries to almost completely discharge. Continuous partial discharges create a condition called digital memory, decreasing the accuracy of the device's power gauge. So let the battery discharge to the cut-off point and then recharge. The power gauge will be recalibrated.

(P)owned one here is S/N 5009295
Review sample at Sony Store 313@Somerset S/N 5009361
Alas, did not write the S/N of the one used at Song Brothers @ Sim Lim.

With screen on the volume adjustment will be continuous by holding down button, with screen off you need to press button for each increment. They probably did that to avoid the typical 'butt dial' syndrome. As for the included leather case, agree they could have done MUCH better. Hopefully someone offers a good aftermarket version. As for FF/Play-Pause/RW buttons, they do work with screen off.

Now that the unit has been here for a few days and been hard-core (ab)using it, it seems the side buttons logic circuit/programming hiccups from time to time with the screen off. Thus with screen off the side buttons sometimes do not respond correctly. I'd say it is about 5% of the time BUT I ALSO noticed that when I had TIDAL and other apps loaded sometimes those apps stayed live and thus MIGHT HAVE been the culprit. In other words, the NW-ZX2 might have not been sure which music you wanted to actively change. Thus maybe the button error might have been due to mis-config of which app's music you wanted to change.

Still (ab)using the unit today and tonight (Singapore time) will meet-up with someone who should answer MANY of our questions / concerns :)
