Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!

So is it just .m4a in general that wreak havoc with the genre tags? It happens with X5, as well.

All I really use is aac & flac (plus a few alac leftovers from my itunes days), so I can't speak for all formats. Flac and mp3 seem ok. I think its been like this since the beginning of time...I guess .m4a doesn't get a lot of use in China

Here's an interesting glitch that I was only able to replicate (sort-of) once after it happened.
I was listening to track 7 of album A. I wanted to start album B, so I navigated to the folder structure for album B track 1 while track 7 of album A was still playing. I then proceeded to press the play button when track 7 on album A was over.
What happened then was the following:
The X3 showed the album artwork for album B, the song name for track 8 on album B, and started playing track 8 on album A.
The only other time I was able to replicate this, the X3 only skipped to track 8 on album B and played that track. However, in my attempts to replicate this, I ended up also finding that changing tracks right as one track ends can result in the new track randomly being paused within the first 3 seconds.

This glitch is very specific and doesn't bother me at all, but I'm documenting it here in case it's a symptom of some other issue.

+1
I experienced this twice but was not able to replicate a third time.

Just discovered an issue with 3.30: line out and headphone out play simultaneously. The X3 didn´t do that before (at least not that I can remember). It´s not irritating, just surprising. I can repeat it all the time.

Example: listening through the line out, the moment I plug in a headphone, it switches the relay, pauses, switches the relay again  and continues playing all by itself - now through headphone out and line out. Unplugging the headphone causes it to pause (switches the relay twice); I then have to un-pause it manually.

Has that been changed per customer wishes or is that an error?

For me, that has been the same with every firmware i have used. It is useful that it pauses when you plug/unplug anything into the line or headphone out. I don't think Fiio Would expect that you would use the line out at the same time as the headphone out. If you use both, i can understand it being a little annoying but i couldn't say it is a problem. Even when i had FW 2.1 and was listening to headphones through the headphone out, if i plugged my hi-fi amplifier and speakers into the line out, it would pause. This seems normal to me.

Oh, I don´t object to the pausing at all, I just wanted to describe what happened in detail because I know that is what the FiiO guys like

And yes, I use both of them regularly. The HO with headphones of course, the LO for the home stereo. I have always been too lazy to remove the headphones while the LO was feeding the amp and grew accustomed to the fact that the X3 doesn´t use the HO once the LO is connected (preserves a lot of battery BTW) only to find that it now powers both.

Good to know. I'll see if my X5 does this and report in the X5 thread. Maybe an X1 user can do the same. Perhaps it's common across Fiio DAPs?

You might want to report this in the main X3 thread to get more eyes on it.

At least the LO is independent of volume controls. I've had my ears blasted with DX90 HO after using LO at full volume. Just found out my Rockboxed iRiver IHP-140 also allows playback through HO + LO simultaneously. It's also a volume controlled LO, so it was just blasting music through the HO.

Beta firmware version 3.34 for the X3 is now available!
Mediafire download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/r4g5b5mz2oq455n/X3_FW3.34Beta.zip
Temporary dropbox mirror: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z23o9evnsnenniz/X3%20FW3.34Beta.zip?dl=0

After downloading the update, please unpack (unRAR / unZIP) the package and read the update instructions contained within.

The following changes and improvements were made to firmware 3.34beta compared to FW3.30:
1. Path memory feature: Pressing the Back button from the Now Playing screen will now always take you to the folder / album / etc. from which the current song is selected. This is true even after navigating to the main menu or powering the X3 off and back on.
2. Removed 5800 song limit on number of songs that may be indexed by the X3 media library.
3. Added option to play through folders: ie skipping to the first song in the next folder after the last song in the current folder.
4. Added option to delete a whole folder.
5. Fixed issue where artist info cannot be shown on the Now Playing screen.

Known issue: Option to display ID3-based song title in Now Playing screen still does not work yet

Looking forward to everyone's feedback :)
