Great to see Hidizs on Head-Fi,

I too have an AP100 player, I like it very much.

Pros :
Sound quality
Build Quality
Hardware EQ
Aesthetics
24/192 capability

Cons :
Firmware
Buttons
Case

After comparing X3 with AP100, I feel the AP100 is way ahead in terms of sound quality and hardware.

Good job on your first DAP, Hidizs

Hello Hidizs!
Have you any customization tools for firmware?
I tried use tool for fiio X3 to pack/unpack AP100.fw to change pictures, font, location. This tool work great. Do you have any plans to do same tool like Fiio for you?

Just cross-posting my impressions from twister6's review thread here.  Mine finally arrived today, after a very long wait.  Not at all impressed with the carrier they used (SF Express).  The tracking number never worked, and nearly three weeks to deliver an "express" parcel?  I suppose it's not fair to blame Hidizs for the shipper's issues, but Hidizs should really stick with EMS or a better carrier for overseas shipments.

What was very disappointing, however, is that the AP100 I received is the wrong color.  When I placed my order on Amazon, I immediately sent a message to Hidizs requesting a black AP100.  I received a response stating, "No problem, we will send you the AP100 in black colour."  Of course, I received a white one.  Inside the box was a little Christmas card from Hidizs addressed to someone else, so I guess my order was mixed up with another buyer's.  I suppose it's not the end of the world.  It's a handsome device, even in the white/silver.  It's just not what I ordered, and it's frustrating when a seller agrees to send you something, tells you not to worry about it, and then you still receive the wrong item.

Anyway, I've been listening for about an hour with the T-Peos Altone 200s.  First impressions are generally positive.  The treble is a bit harsh sounding, but it could be the source material I'm using, or perhaps it would benefit from some burn-in.  The midbass may be a bit emphasized as well. There is definitely some background hiss with the Altones, very similar to what you get with the iBasso DX50 on low gain.  It's probably priced correctly at its $299 retail.  It's clearly better than the FiiO X3 and the iBasso DX50, but not in the same league as the DX90.

I don't understand what the SRC upsampler is supposed to be doing.  It is definitely doing more than just upsampling the signal.  Playing 44/16 flac files, I noticed that the bass becomes increasingly emphasized and more bloated each time you jump to a higher sampling rate, until the bass becomes comically bloated at the 192/24 setting.

The EQ presets are horrendous - so bad they're embarrassing.  They should probably be eliminated entirely in future firmware versions.  Someone in a prior post mentioned that there is a beta firmware version out that allows more than one custom user EQ setting to be saved.  It might actually make more sense to just have 8 user customizable presets.  Personally, I never use EQ, but the factory presets aren't going to make anyone happy.

Final point: Gapless needs to be added ASAP.  Personally, my overall listening experience is better using an inexpensive player with gapless than with a high end player without it.

Im still waiting for Gapless to buy the Hidizs and I think that I'm not unique in this way ! I can't really enjoy my favorite concept albums without gapless, sorry
