omg, there is like a million new posts on this thread since I last checked, so can I just ask if there are any reviews off members who maybe own or have heard this headphone already?

Thanks!

SF :)

There is several reviews in previous post of owners. Everyone so far has really enjoyed them. I don't think anyone has said anything bad about the sound qaulity yet.

I own the HP50. Chose it in direct comparison against the original Momentum, PSB M4U2, and the B&W P7 in an extensive audition, just ask my fourteen year old daughter who had to hang out in the store with me while I performed the comparison. The comparison consisted of those specific models as they were the closed back portables in the smae price range that the store carried other than the HP50's. Took my HP50's to TAVES last fall and spent more than an hour comparing my HP50's against three different prototypes of the PM-3 using my FiiO X5 and there was no comparison. Nowhere near an hour was required to determine that the performance of all three of the PM-3 prototypes were on a different level than the HP50's, and I love my HP50's. I spent some time with the HA-2, not all that impressed, and the HA-1, want one, as well.

I truly don't think it would be out of line to say that the Oppo PM-3 is probably one of the five best closed portable headphones in the $400 US range and below on the planet currently. No I haven't heard nearly all of the candidates, but who has? It's an assumption, but judging from what I heard that Sunday back in November I think it's a pretty safe assumption. Of course there will be those who disagree and they may even come on here to tell me so. That's fine, but i would suggest that such a conclusion would simply be the result of personal preference more than anything else as is my own.

A very useful comparison, thank you. Guess I have to check the PM3 now.

Thank you!

I'm so excited that these headphones have favourable reviews and I will definitely check them.

I'm still considering the pm3 wih the el8 but think the pm3 will maybe win as they cost wise seen such a great value.

But yeah, I think it's so great to have great choices available :)

Hi SF,
I been listening to the PM3 for a couple of weeks already. I really like them. As you can see in my signature I also have the PM1 other top tier headphones. I think the PM3 at their price and portability are hard to beat. They are very well made, very comfortable, isolated very good both ways and most importantly they sound great. Similar sound signature than the PM1 but with smaller soundstage in comparison due to their closed nature and smaller cup but it does not mean a small soundstage its is nice and a good size for a closed design. IMO the tonality is neutral and I don't think they lack in any frequency.

I listened to the EL-8 a week ago (both versions). First of all I think they are the best effort from Audeze in regards of design and built (they are very nice) but they are bigger then the PM3 so for portability IMO the PM3 has a leg up. Sound wise they are probably one of the most neutral headphones from Audeze but I personally like the open version sound better so once again for on the go I think the PM3 is better (if you are going to use them at home mainly then I would consider the EL-8 Open) and therewith the price difference I think the PM3 is a better bang of rate buck.

If you are looking for something portable I personally would go for the PM3 but if you are k=just wanting to add a headphones to your home collection that I would also conducer the EL-8 open version.

A quick question, do you think pm3 is closer to HE6 or HD800 sound signature ?
I am basically looking for the closed version of HE6, really like everything about HE6.

thanks in advance !

Between those two IMO to the HE-6 but remember those two are open headphones and the PM-3 is close so the soundstage presentation is smaller.

Thank you for a totally great comparisons review!

The PM3 sound like the best for me as I am looking for a hp that is great for portable use and maybe a step up from my momentum hp's which I currently use for this right now so to speak.

I just came back last night from a business trip. It was the first time I used the PM-3 for traveling. Oh my! They are awesome! Very comfortable and great sound. I was running them straight out of my AK240. I listened to some classic Yes where Chris Squire bass sounded deep and powerful. I am not a basshead so for me PM-3 has more than enough bass response and extension. Then I listened to Eric Clapton "Unplugged" the clarity and texture of his voice and guitar sounded amazing!

Clearly they are better headphones for hoe listening than the PM-3 but for on the go and considering their price point they are hard to beat IMO.

Single ended only, but theoretically we could make a cable that was balanced. There is no real reason to have a balanced configuration for the PM-3 (sensitivity and input impedance being the biggest), but it is definitely something that we can consider down the road if there is enough demand to warrant the additional manufacturing costs of making a balanced option.

So the internal wiring, up to the TRRS jack, is ready for balanced input?

Got my PM-3 in a couple days ago. Will have a full review ready within a week or two (busy on my end and really like to get familiar with products). But initial impressions are very positive. Plenty of extra low bass (clean and hard hitting), to be sure, but the rest of the spectrum is nicely balanced, smooth, detailed, clear, and fast for an on-the-go sort of headphone. Even outperforms the PM-1 and 2 in some categories, IMO. One of the best headphones I think I've heard in this category and a very good value at $400. I feel comfortable saying that even early on.

Yes! I need one of those cables too. Short ones aren't easy to come by.

Max digital volume (on device) is the preferred setting and you adjust the volume on the amp.

Ah there it is. I was looking in the HA-2 thread for this post. XD

I'll need to get one of these since my current one got bent up in my pocket and its connection isn't reliable anymore. : (
