Some people asked us to unlimited the total number of the music library from 5,800. now we have a beta firmware which can allow add about 20,000 sound tracks into the music lib . but we need more people to help us test it whether it is stable or now.

and please noted that the system may become slow when there are so many sound tracks update to the lib.

the download address is http://www.filedropper.com/x5. and maybe someone can help me upload it to somewhere too.

Hi James...I would be most happy to test...I am far from reaching the 5800 file limit, but can check the software's behaviour in other ways.

I clicked on the link and didn't get a download though, just the front page. Is the link correct? Once I see it, I will upload to my DropBox for public consumption and share as well.

Hello James,

i installed the beta firmware 2.31 on my X5 with german language.

I have installed two 128 GB microSDXC Sandisk cards. One with 50 GB of FLAC files, the other with 80 GB of MP3 files. This adds up to total 14506 titels.

After installing the firmware the update of the media lib was quite fast (as before with 5800 title limit) up to 14000 titels. Only the last 500 titels did take a longer time.

In usage i can't find any lags. Scrolling through artists or albums is quite as fast as before. To me this beta looks very good.

Thanks for your continous support.

Scotty

Tried it and it works well. Scanning my library was quite fast, no slowdowns so far.
But for me it still is not very useful. I have far more than 20,000 Songs on my 2x128GB Sandisk cards. Just asking straight: Are you planning to raise the limit because this is a first open-filed-test or might this be the border, we will have to deal with?

While using the db for the first time now, I find it kind of unhandy to scroll through loooooong lists of interprets. albums, etc..
What about a shortcut/key for scrolling by letters. You could, for example, scroll the wheel while you keep pressing the upper left softkey to scroll by capitals through each list.

But for now: Thank you very very much for being such an innovative company, that keeps on listening to their customers!

Have been using the new software for the last few days....works fine for me...no hanging, no scrolling issues (once I realized it now picked up momentum and rolled on a little if I let go). Library works beautifully as well. Haven't hit the file limit yet, but happy to report the proposed change doesn't break normal functionality for me.

I have enough files to go right up to the 20,000 limit, which is obviously not enough, 30,000 might do until the 256 cards show up. I have one 128 gb card of FLAC files and one 128 gb card of MP3 files. Both have about 17 gb free.

First thing that I noticed was the loss of all cover art display from folder.jpg and cover.jpg files. Embedded covers still work but the few of those that I have are accidental ones that I forgot to remove.

it looks like the randomization engine in this firmware is broken/not working.

If you go to All Songs and play all from there and are in Random mode. The songs are not random. No matter how many times I go back and select another track, forcing a new random list, the list of songs stays the same. I can already tell which song is going to come next because its the same exact list, every time.

Prior to this firmware, Random in All Songs mode worked as it should. Each time it played songs in random order and reset every time you picked a song individually and when you went back one track.

Posted this 4 days ago in the X5 thread, wasn't aware (thanks krayziehustler!) of this one...

James' link didn't work for me either, so I used darkarn's dropbox account also. Thanks!

Yesterday I installed the Beta 2.31 FW and this is my experience at the moment:
– Upoaded 10.700 (flac & mp3) songs and they all come forward in the ''All songs'' section.
– I don't experience much lag with scrolling and till now my X5 didn't froze with this FW.
– As I posted yesterday, most of the jpg files are not shown. Just like in FW2.0
– When I start the player and start playing from the ''All songs'' section in shuffle mode, it seems to always follow the same route. No matter what the first song is, the second, third etc is always the same. This doesn't really feel like random order to me. By scrolling with the wheel and selecting another song it will follow another path from that moment on though.
– In FW2.2 it was possible to remove mp3's straight from the X5, with FW2.3 this is not possible anymore.

So, It's great that the 5.800 limit is not there anymore, but I will go back to FW2.2 soon because of the other disadvantages.

I posted about this over in the main thread -- didn't realize this thread was here.

Gapless playback no longer works in this beta.  That's a "make or break" for me, so I've gone back to FW 2.2.  If the buffer dedicated to gapless playback has been "cannibalized" to use for extended file-indexing, I won't be using updated firmware and will have to stop recommending the X5 to my friends.  At least from my perspective, gapless is a fundamental requirement of a DAP.  Without it, Fiio will lose everyone who listens to jazz, Broadway, opera, classical, live concert recordings (yes, including "bootlegs") and spoken word.  Though it may be true that most DAP users just listen to individual songs, I would suspect that the proportion of potential market for a high-SQ DAP that requires gapless playback is significantly higher than in the market for lower-quality DAPs.  If you exclude us, you're cutting off a market segment that tends to be both more affluent (and older), more likely to spend their money on Fiio's products and more likely to be brand-loyal (for example, I bought the X5 because I was impressed with my E12).

Please find a solution to the file-indexing limit that doesn't involve an either-or choice with respect to gapless playback.
