I thought the stx ii had 2x 8820/8920/49720?
I m looking for a small and cheap upgrade -if any by using 3x same opamps-.

I ve read the last 30 page of that thread, too many options drive me crazy!! =)

Oops, was not paying attention, my brain was thinking original STX, but those op-amps I listed might still work well for the STX II.

Hi,

I've just bought a ZxR and I'm inspired to start looking at replacing the Op-Amps after reading this thread.  One quick question to the original posters -- how many AD827SQ amps did you need?  I'm a bit noob-osh when it comes
to which of the replaceable Op-Amps I need to replace.

Hi Kizza

2XAD827SQ as they are dual channel, and are placed in the I\V section/

OK thanks.

So for a new ZxR you'd only need to replace the two I/V amps leaving the rest standard.

It seems they're pretty hard to come by, the AD827SQ amps.  I've only found one seller on ebay and there like 90$-ish a piece.

The two I/V op-amps are used for the headphone output, the buffer and the two I/V are used for the line-output (speaker output)
Each I/V is a dual channel slot, the buffer consists of two single channel slots.
So the ZxR comes stock with two JRC 2114D dual channel op-amps (I/V) and two 49710 single channel op-amps (buffer).

Post back the results after installing the AD797BR's

This is the seller I bought my three AD797BR's op-amps from, they have a good rep.

  Updates in the first page.

Thank you for your research and updates, highly appreciated.

When I first bought Creative ZxR I noticed how artificial it sounded compared to Realtek 1150 as much as crazy I might sound. I couldn't find any AD827SQ for sale in our local electronics shop. I could find them on Aliexpress though and they were roughly $20 each. What I did find was AD827JNZ so I ordered them for around $18 each. Aside from lower max. operating temp., those op amps also have higher Input Offset Voltage by .2 and several other minor changes prior to SQ. I will check differences and post results when I get them and also when my PC gets repaired.

As for buffers... I'm suprised by your results and how cheap NE5534Ns actually are (at least here at my local reseller). If I buy just 1 I'm paying $2.7, if I buy 9, I pay $2.8 for ALL 9 ... lol so I'm wondering what components are used in this opamp. As you said, those charecteristcs of NE5534N seem to be close to those opamps that come built in ZxR by default. Anyway since it's such a cheap chip, I'm gonna get them anyway and check.

Came across this thread while contemplating returning my ZxR, which was unexpectedly given as a gift, after finding the same inconsistencies most people talk about.  It didn't really sound better than the Titanium HD I was using, and honestly sounded a bit worse in certain situations (too much bass)  I am so glad that someone took the time to make these comparisons, I didn't really expect a simple op-amp swap could make this much of a difference.

AD827SQ's are readily available in the States through DigiKey, so I figured I'd give em a shot.  Perfect match is about as accurate as you can get, raymond555 is spot on.  The card, for lack of a better word, sounds "clean" now.  Putting the old op-amps back in for comparison is rather jarring, these were worth every penny.

Thanks for your effort in trying the different op-amps and posting these results, they should sell the AD827SQs with the ZxR as a combo deal.  They really do "fix" the card.
