Absolute BEST over-ear headphones for $200 or under.

Yea, my bad. Wasn't sure how popular it was. And I'm fine with either open or closed headphones. So you're saying that both the Soundmagic HP200 &  AKG K612 Pro will be better than the M50's?

It depends for sure what you want. Both of those cans have a more neutral sound--more even throughout the audio frequency spectrum--than the M50.

Good point. Well, let me explain this. I'm just an average guy looking for an awesome pair of headphones. I have never owned a pair of high quality headphones in my life. The best I've received is a pair of apple buds I got with my iPhone. I love music, and I want something better. Something amazing, where every song I listen to is like an absolute dream. Where it's like a straight up orgasm to my ears. I want a well balanced pair of headphones. I do like bass, but I hate overpowering bass. I basically want to find a pair of headphones that is everything that the M50's are, but better in almost every way. Does such a thing even exist? If not for $200 or under. What about if I were to bump my budget up a little to $250? Does that change things? Because I really can't spend more than that. I still have to get the amp. So all I can spend is $250. Also I don't know where I can try out headphones. Walmart & Target just have Bose and Beats. Any places you can recommend?

Best Buy, Guitar Center, local audio shops.

Good advice being provided here. For perspective, compare to asking "what is the absolute best car, that will give me driving orgasms, for under $25,000?" There is not a single answer. I may say new Accord, someone else will say a used Acura, someone else will say modified Miata. There is not a linear ladder or sequence of quality.

Based on how that guy said it sounded, I think those are exactly what I'm looking for. But unfortunately it's a bit over what I would like to spend. I set out wanting to spend only $200 for the headphones. But decided to bump up my budget $50 more. But those headphones are $300. Which make me spend another $100. Unless I can find it used on ebay or something. But what are your thoughts on buying used headphones? Is it safe? I don't know, it just kinda scares me. But I tell you what, I think those are the headphones I want. Also, how much would those headphones benefit from an amp? Specifically the O2 amp. Would it make it sound even more amazing?

Last I checked (today), they were selling on eBay for $249 shipped--slightly cheaper than from the Amazon third party seller.

Just got done doing some research on the headphones, multiple reviews from different people, and comparisons with other headphones. And I've happily come to the conclusion that these are the headphones I've been looking for. It's everything I want! THANK YOU SO MUCH KG Jag! I wish I didn't have to spend this much, but eh, it'll be worth it. So, you do recommend buying it used? If so, do you mind sending me a link to where I can buy it for $250? I'd really appreciate it. The amazon link you sent me didn't work, it says- "We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site."

Awesome! Will do! Is there anything bad about ordering from an Amazon third party seller? I'll still get a warranty, correct? Anyway, what amp would you recommend for those headphones? I'm not sure if it's true, but I heard a couple people saying it's easy to drive and doesn't even need one. But it would still benefit from one, wouldn't it? If so, then what amp would you recommend? Or would the O2 be the best option?

TBH if you're willing to buy an amp spend the extra few bucks and go with better headphones that don't need one.

No thanks, not when I just found an amazing pair of headphones that compete against one's that are twice it's price. And it's well balanced. Which is hard to find, there's headphones more expensive that have better highs, but worse mids and lows. Or the other way around. This headphone is very well balanced, it shines in all area's. So I'm gonna go with that. But I appreciate the suggestion.

Alright, you remember how this thread started out. And what my whole goal here was. Correct? It was to find the "best" pair of headphones under or for $200. And one that would be better than the Audio Technica HTM 50's in every aspect. But for that price, people couldn't find me one. And the one's that did it wasn't a for sure thing. So I decided to spend a bit more. $50 more to be exact. And you recommended to me the NAD Viso HP50's. A pair of $300, that I could get for $250. What seemed to be an absolute amazing pair of cans. Looked up the reviews of it, NOTHING but good things. People compared it to headphones twice it's price and say that it's as good in some aspects or even better! And that it was very well balanced just like the M50's. It seemed like I had finally found the pair of headphones I've been looking for. Then I stumbled upon a review of the headphones from TheGamingAudiophile on YouTube. And he also said nothing but good things about it. He said he loved the headphones! But then I looked in the comment section, and someone asked if they should get those headphones or the HTM 50's. And he replied back saying get the M50's, and that they sound BETTER than the HP50's! What? He said that the M50's are more engaging to listen to, is more refined, more accurate, and overall better sounding. And I know he's not being biased here, because I know for a fact he owns both headphones. And has reviewed both headphones. He's known for being a trustworthy reviewer. I mean CRAP! Do my dream headphones even exist!?
