Moon Nēo 430HA Reference Headphone Amplifier

Clean power and a  good ground (very low resistance) makes a vast improvement to the 430HA and all the other components in your system. So I can see how the fuse change makes a notable improvement.

Back in the 90s/early 00s I was seriously into conventional audio (Martin Logan CLSs panels/ then B&W 802 Nautilus speakers, Plinius power amps running bridged in mono, top-end Audio Research preamp, Wadia CD player, Kimber Select Silver cabling, etc) and I had my electrician put in a separate dedicated audio house wiring system with good wall sockets and solid heavy wiring, dedicated fuses box with  audio grade fuses and dedicated  ground rod for it (with 10 awg wiring), as well as using then state of the art audio powercords. Then I got tired of changing hissy tubes on the preamp and this new fangled thing called an iPod seduced me to the dark side of iTunes, etc for a decade (although mostly using my trusty HD600 HPs), and I traded my  whole audio system (but luckily kept my CD collection) for a couple of nice watches.

Then the Mac and DAC brigade lured me back to sonic sanity (indeed it was the introduction of the Oppo HA-1 that really got me rolling).

Anyhow, as you do, I got serious and now have a 430HA using an Auralic Vega DAC (subject to upgrade once MQA gets sorted one way or another) driven by an Antipodes DX, and numerous HPs including LCD-4, 3F, Focal Utopia, HD-800, etc and several IEMs (used with my AK70). This was originally located in the kitchen nook plugged into the normal mains, but then moved the system (with purchase of an Eames lounge chair and ottoman) into the living room and plugged into my old dedicated audio mains -- WOW!!!! What an improvement! A whole veil was removed from the sound which had more silence and more slam. A big difference!!!

This suggested to go the next step and recently I acquired a Nordost wiring loom (mix of Tyr 2  and Heimdall 2  interconnects and powercords) with direct star grounded DB distributor box (with dedicated ground) -- MORE WOW!!!!  Another level of veil removed from the music event and even more silence and dynamic slam.

The Nordost loom was not cheap, even using Heimdall 2 power cords for the less critical components, but I seem to remember the electrician charging me only a three figure sum for the dedicated audio house wiring -- although nearly 20 years ago, so perhaps $1500 today -- the cost of a good HP! Although not the $20 of replacing the 430HA fuses, which might be the first place to start!

The Eames chair- a very important part of an audiophile's system. I just wish I had one.

I agree. People always underestimate how much the power source can impact the audio quality. I also went with dedicated power supply and circuit with my home audio setup. Made a huge difference. Although the electrician think that I was crazy.
The 430HA is very transparent. You will notice any changes in the system. Including a simple aftermarket fuses. There is really nothing to lose, if you dont like the sound or don't notice any changes, then simply take the new fuses out and put back the old one. It only takes about 5-10 mins to validate if fuses make any difference.

my question remains unanswered - if this fuse that causes so much "WOW!!!" costs $20 retail, then simaudio could get it for probably $5.

i just don't see them going "well this gold fuse sounds noticably better than the crap fuse we have in there now.  but it will raise the price from $4300 to $4310.  that's just crazy!  keep it as it is."

No dude!
The ultimate question is:
If a fuse will cause a WOW, so what a new power cable will cause?
Maybe WAWI ZAWI WOOT WOOT

There are some specific reasons why anything power-related before the power supply will not make a difference, including fuses and power cables. See the following article for why not:

So the blog claims, but I cannot be bothered repeating, yet again, the well established arguments that critique the problems of scientific positivism embedded within the reasoning of this and similar blogs and articles.

Yes, even if they could get the audio grade fuse for $5, that raise the price by at least $25, as the electronic components costs in a piece of audio kit are normally marked up at least five times to get the retail price, so the new price is $4325. But that begs the question is that the best improvement a $25 increase in retail price would justify, as, say,  changing some capacitors for an additional $5 input cost might make a greater sound improvement? Upgrades and their costs never ends, so the manufacturer normally makes the best trade-offs that they can for a set retail price point, in this case $3500 or $4300 with inbuilt DAC. This does not mean that replacing the fuses with better ones with less electrical resistance/lower melting point for their set ampere and/or propensity to oxidize on their conducting surfaces, by the 430HA buyer for $20, does not make for a further overall sound improvement to the unit.

Yesx decent power cable is essential. Anyone who is still using stock cable is missing out the potential of the amp.

To all Moon with DAC owner,
Do you use just a USB to connect your computer to the Moon?
What USB cable are you using?
Do you notice any difference with changing USB cables?
Connecting the computer to the Moon directly, is this the best method?

i use a USB-C to USB-B cable to go from my Macbook Pro (new) to Moon Neo.

this is the only one i could find in existence. probably crap but the USB-C market is still really thin despite Apple's push. and i don't want to go thru a dongle...

I use the chord silver plus USB cable, it is not the best one. Just slightly better than stock cable.
I find I notice a more substantial improvement (more weight/body in bass, smoother mid and less peaky treble) by using an uptone USB Regen between the computer and the Moon 430 DAC.
