YULONG D200 Impression : ES9016 Balanced DAC + Class A Single End Headphone Amp + Balanced Pre-amp - Page 19

Depends on what you are trying to do. Some people want to use the D200 as a pre-amp. Just press in and hold the volume knob to swap modes (full power line out vs. pre-amp). What you cannot do is have full power XLR outputs AND still use the headphone amplifier.

Does that answer your question?

Thanks, yes, partially - but only cause there is a hidden question as well. Which is: Does the headphone amp when is turned on and You run the external amplifier (big one  and speakers for example), does it not make any disotrions to the sound overall? That is my main concern.

And yes, You're very right about that: "What you cannot do is have full power XLR outputs AND still use the headphone amplifier." - it is even said in the manual.

It seems pretty clean as a pre-amp. Doesn't seem to have the typically feared "double amp" issues (because the pre-amp level is lower than the straight line-out, you don't hit any headroom issues).

With that said - I mostly run it in pure dac mode and control the volume from the external amps. Just my preference.

Guys, who knows what is the output impedance of D200 for headphones jack output?

Wasn't much of an effort, here you go.

Well, this picture doesn't has output impedance data...

sorry, wrong answer. Well, tried to look it up as well just now, and the only thing i came across is - "extremely low", but no figures...

Do you want to check if there is going to be any his or anything bad comming out through the IEMs or easy driveable cans with D200?

The easiest to drive cans i've ever plugged in to the D200 was Ultrasone HFI-780, and AKG K550. Nothing heard apart that i wanted to head from music.

Subscribe! Hello guys, I'm interested in this DAC _ Amp for possibly an HE400i or HD650. I will get the headphones first and use a laptop for a source but looking into to combo units and this one was on my radar. A bit more than what I want to spend but I saw a few used, along with other choices.

Would these go well with the HE400i and HD650s?

Yes - it will work just fine with both of those (neither of which is particularly difficult to power, or picky as to sound signature).

Someone told me about Audio-Gd. My purchase is probably 3 months away for a DAC + Amp because I'm buying the headphones first. Good to know! I like the D200's profile and looks.

As an owner of D200 I can recommend AUNE S16 as well. I am just testing that DAC/AMP  - and they are both great pieces of kit, shortly the differences in the sound are that the S16 goes wider and more indirect, and a little bit mode 3 dimensional than D200. D200 is a bit more direct sounding - both with the soundstage and the tonality. Really hard to say which is better - depending what you like.. The amps - both work different for all different cans - what is a quite a lesson for me. But to make a choice I would suggest for anybody to listen - golden rule :)
