I believe the only prototype they've let people listen to is the XD variant, in which LFF seemed to really enjoy and called it one of the best portable media players he's had the chance to listen to.

Thanks! It seems to have different names also.  I've read the geek wave, geek wave 32, now the geek wave XD.
I am not aware that any have been built.  They are still working out the components.  Maybe there is a prototype somewhere.

I trust Luis's taste in audio.  Thanks for the reply.  I guess its the Geek wave XD now huh?

There was a post a couple pages back with table explaining the different models.

A mock-up of the 3 finishes for the XD.

Dang only for the XD?  I noticed theres no 32 but the models start from 64( $400) than go up to the XD which is about $1k.
I had opened a ticket on LH labs and asked about the 32.  They quoted me at $167 but they said that they're going fast.  Are there any stats on the 32 by any chance?

The 32 GB model is an Indiegogo only unit since it costs more to make it than what they were offering in the perks. It's the exact same as the 64 GB in specs except for the internal memory of course.

Oh I see.  ok.  I wonder why they quoted me $167 for the geek wave 32 than if its the same as the 64?...

Nono, the specifications of the two units are identical except for the internal memory. The perk prices are different (the 64 GB model being $132 more).

Geek Wave 32 for Indiegogo Backers Only

Geek Wave 32 features everything in the Geek Wave 64, but it comes with 32 GB of on-board storage (expandable up to another 2 TB using the SDXC port). Why offer it on Indieogo? It's simple-- we want more people to be able to experience true high-performance audio, and we think high prices act as a barrier for a lot of folks. So we're releasing a limited number of this loss leader (it costs more to make it than what we're selling it for) for those of you who may be on the fence about trying something this high end. We won't be releasing this model to the public after this campaign for obvious reasons. :)

Ahh I see thanks for clearing that up. I've only started learning about this as of the other day.  Its a bit confusing what was going on.  I still wonder if they gave me a quote for the 32 that they still have some that are made and they are allowing me to buy them at a pretty good price. 32 gb is a lot already.  I don't plan on putting a lot of music on there.  I would like to be able to get great sound for the price (as everyone would) and perhaps get the XD in the future when I have that kind of funds.  Thanks miceblue!

There are a least 5 basic variants:

Wave 32
Wave 64
Wave 128
Wave X128
Wave XD128

Each of them can have customizations (more perks) applied to them like a THD, IEM, WiFi, etc.!  Go to the Indiegogo page and look at what comes with each basic model for yourself.  Yes, it can be confusing.

Not 100% true: worth to mention that Geek Wave 32Gb comes with a "special" case and PCB board which will allow to use only 1 SDHC expansion slot

I guess this "feature" will cost more to LH vs. having a standard board and case to be used across all models. Anyway, it's their choice...

You are correct, sadly enough. When LH first posted that description of the Wave 32, it was accurate, but later in the campaign that soon became invalid.

The Wave 32 does not include dual SDHC expansion slots and is not compatible with the jitter-free Bluetooth perk compared to Wave 64. Obviously due to the fact that there is no support for two SDHC card slots, the enclosure and the PCB have to be different from Wave 64.

LOL, so people spend that much on a product that haven't been made yet.
Best way to earn money, ever.

Yep.  But that is the concept behind crowdsourcing.  Two of the things which puts this on the fringe is the amount of money per backer and the timeframe for product delivery.  Most of the projects I have seen are well under $500/backer and have a delivery of 3-6 months.  However, the individuals behind this venture have produced product previously so there is some track record.
