Okay, I caved. PM-1 ordered. :xf_eek:   30 day return with no restocking...couldn't resist. Bring it on Oppo, let's hear it.

Looking forward to your impressions most. Both leather and velour pad sonic impressions. Not many have reviewed each differently, which is disappointing.

You cave in Matt? My review is being completed  and sent in early this week and my impressions on the PM-1 have been very favorable. I think Oppo  did a masterful job in bringing this product to market

Can't wait to read your review Frank!  Can you give us a link to the review when ready?

I thought about it. My review was even set-up for that. I then decided that the differences were so minute that it wasn't worth it. Overall the velours feel a bit bigger in the low-end and a tad more closed off. I imagine that as the velours break in more this will become a bit bigger in the low end, but not too drastically.

Sigh, still no luck with anyone having both 560 and PM1 retail versions?
I'd hope we get a comparison before the 560 is out.

In the infamous words of the bully kid on the Simpsons - "ha-ha!"  My true hope is that in some small way, I had something to do with separating you from your money on this one!

I'll expect a Lyr impression.  I had a deal set up to buy a used Lyr, and backed out based on the impedance and efficiency of the PM-1.  From other's reports, maybe I shouldn't have.  I ended up with an Asgard 2 paired with a Bifrost Uber (trying some Schiit gear out).  I am pleasantly surprised with the pairing.  I didn't expect the Asgard 2 to be as good as it seems to be.  I was prepared for the Bifrost Uber to be really good, and was not disappointed.

I hope you like the PM-1 as much as I do.

Oh my!  I started out with the velour pads yesterday and since, until this morning, changed to the leather pads.  I seem to have lost some bass, gained some treble and clarity!  Isn't that supposed to work the other way around?  Leather is very very comfortable, soft, and not hot like I expected.....hmmmm, something else to like about the PM-1, two very high quality pairs of earpads!  Any one else have impressions about the velour pads vs the leather pads!

Guess I'm one of the few that doesn't like them that much

Got mine a couple days ago and I think they went a bit overboard with the treble roll-off...they sound too closed and dark for me.

That said, I think they are a way better package than the LCD2...it's just that at this price I'm not willing to live with its flaws..got plenty of warm headphones already (at much lower prices).

Eagerly awaiting the HE-560

edit: the whole package, build quality, comfort is awesome though...also cool they included a 1\8 cable..even though as some said its stupid short...

I've auditioned most highend stuff but ownership only LCD3, HD800. I'd say my favorite headphone is the LCD3, comfort being the deal breaker (I wear headphones 8-10 hours a day).

I got rid of both BTW.

What headphone best defines your preference in the treble region?

Thanks!

Mike
