ifi has now confirmed to me that there is a bug on version 5.20 that introduces a 5 seconds delay after 15-20 seconds of idle.

I am just a little surprised that a bug like that would make it through QC.. but hey **** happens

And there we have it:

 From ifi support:

Thanks for your patience.
I took this time to speak with our Software Program Department. They said this slightly lengthier sequence is needed. So it stays. We wont remove it as it part of the core program. If this delay is too long for a user, then downgrade to the previous firmware. As it is not a bug, we won't be modifying the program on the back of this

what a freakin joke.. so its just like a tube amp, every 20 seconds.. clearly necessary for a digital dac

I GOT ONE! Got it today! Listening to it right now through my 400i. I love it. The people at iFi did it. Listening to it right now. Through my GS7. Sounds just as good through that as my home built 1400 computer. Got to say I think it bets my Modi 2 Uber. I have the Magni 2 Uber and the Vali 2 I'll try with it just to play and see. That DAC chip it has plus Vali 2 with Upscale National 7DJ8 PCC88 is going to be good I think. But right now Black Sabbath is sounding SOOOO good. The new Disturbed Sound of Silence sound very good to. That dual core DAC from Burr Brown is a very good chip.Little bit more dynamic and natural sounding. I have it running bit-perfect on the filter. Both on the s7 and computer. My files are WAV straight from the CDs. No compression. Just straight copy to my SSD. Same on the phone. I have a 120 gb micro disc so I have lots of room. I'm really impressed. I was thinking about getting a DAP from Onkyo but did this instead. I had to order straight from China from Amazon because my card had too much on it. Got a account at Amazon so I pulled the trigger. Shenzhen Audio is the store it came from and DHL. Awesome delivery. Came perfect and a week early. I'm so stoked man. My phone sounds like a whole new system. Wow. I was worried it would not sound better but yes it does. Still playing with. I'll post some more when some more new wears off. LOL I'll plug in the Vali 2 and and tube and post soon.

I finally have had time to get back. Work has been murder. The Vali 2 and 7DJ8 sound really good together. Makes the tube sound more detailed. With Modi 2 Uber the Vali sounded just a little more subdued. But with the iDSD sounded, dare I say, more solid state like. Yes I'm a Disturbed fan. I have all their CDs except Asylum. I also have Device CD. I was hoping Device would come out with another but I think it was just a one time thing. Really sounds good on the iDSD Micro. But then again everything sounds good on it. I really like it now that I have had a chance to use it more. Got waist pack big enough to put my phone and the dac/amp in for work. A fanny pack is what most people call them. I got one of those so water would not splash up on them while I'm cleaning. Works pretty good.

I have a question I hope gets answered. The preamp swich on the bottom does not silence the built in amp. In other words I can plug in the headphones and sound still comes out the headphone jack. Is this normal? When I plug in my Vali 2 into the RCA jacks I turn up the volume on the iDSD Micro and use the volume on the Vali 2. Is this the way it should be done?

Yes.

No.

Use 'Direct' mode.

The 'Preamp' mode, using the volume control on the iDSD, is for driving devices that don't have their own volume control.

Thank you for answering. On the question about volume. So if I understand. Should I use the volume on the iDSD Micro then when using it in preamp mode? That is what I was asking. What volume knob should I use in preamp mode. The volume on the Vali 2 or the volume on the Micro.

Either... but why use preamp mode at all?

On certain recordings I like the sound of the tube. Thank you again for taking the time to answer. I do not want to ruin my equipment.

What tube? There is no tube in the micro iDSD.

The Vali 2 is a tube amp. I connect it via the RCA outputs from the iDSD. That was the question. Do I use the volume control on the Vali 2 or the volume control on the iDSD? Because the preamp and direct switch on the iDSD does not cut off  sound from the internal amp when using the RCA connections. When I have the switch in preamp mode sound still comes out the 1/4 inch jack on the iDSD. It does not stop it still keeps working.  You can actually use both the headphones and the RCA outputs at the same time. I thought that was weird.

Hi guys,

received my iDSD micro today. Few things to clarify please:

- the Xbass switch does nothing (I feel like it maybe does a tiny little bit when using very sensitive IEMs, but on my Senn's 600 it does nothing (tried turbo too). Nil. Tiny little crack when switched.) -- Faulty?

- the 3D thing does almost nothing -- only a very slight change in the highs. Probably OK. Can live with that.

- the IEM sensitivity switcher on the bottom, when positioned on one of the two "more sensitive IEM" settings, reacts glitchy to the touch -- I guess basically loses contact on a slight touch / push (like when you want to switch it, but much less force) -- Faulty?

Am I a warranty case, and if yes, where to send, back to seller or does iFi replace it?

Other than that -- fine, still burning in I guess.

Seems like DSD playback situation on Windows is a farce -- I'm a pretty good developer, any ways to help?
