Rockbox for iBasso DX50 dual boot with stock firmware

I never had this problem. Did you hear the distortion too, when you connect headphones to your player? I mean is it definitely not a problem of the amp? A possibility could be that your files are tagged with positive (wrong) replaygain tags, this could lead to distortion because rockbox can apply replaygain. There is also a "compressor" software effect that could be switched on accidentally.

Extract the content of a zipped theme to your DX50. You should find a directory named "rockbox". A difference between a regular rockbox build and the DX50 build is that the folder in the zip file is named ".rockbox" and the one on the DX50 is called "rockbox" (without dot). So just extract the content of the subfolder ".rockbox" to your DX50's folder "rockbox" (folder "theme", "wps",...) .
Take themes for Cowon D2 because it has the same resolution an also a touchscreen: http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?target=cowond2

To flash a new firmware version you have to flash "stock recovery" in CWM (included in the Mod-Package of DOC2008: http://yadi.sk/d/UbPDGP_IKvVCA) first. Then boot to stock recovery and apply the update with the stock recovery.
To be able to use rockbox again, someone will have to build a new firmware file containing the new firmware AND clockworkmod recovery. I'm quite sure that this will happen very quickly after a new release.

Hi cholero,

thanks for the fast reply.

Not sure how to quote single parts of a post yet... o_O so everything in one.

For the distortion. No that's the thing. Sound is perfectly fine wherever I plug it in to, except for the car line in. Tried multiple headphones and stereo systems at home and everything is perfectly fine. Maybe I will try to lower the replaygain (I saw it was activated by standard by rockbox) and check for the compressor you mentioned
Really bugs me, since like I mentioned for about 50 % of my songs the sound is great.

Just tried to install a new theme and it works :D
The only "problem" now is that I can only select this one theme and the ones that were installed already in the standard package cannot be selected anymore....strange, but I got my big album art theme now :)

And for the firmware...oh I already thought I might have go back to stock recovery for this...guess I will wait then for the updated rockbox file before doing this. Usb DAC is just nice to have anyway for me and not super urgent.

One other thing, where can I buy a longer coax cable for dx50? my coax connection at home is on the back of my system, so the cable is muuuch to short. I couldn't find any place to buy such a cable, especially since I'm not even sure what exactly I have to look for...

Cheers

I think it is not possible but I will try what workarounds may be possible.
The button behaviour is the most problematic thing in the current status of the DX50 port in my opinion (very little to complain about anyway) . I hope that the developer will one day find the time to integrate his source into the rockbox repository and make it an official build. After that, there will be more improvements by the rockbox community.

no worries mate..take your time..currently using the new theme and im so loving it

Guys, what is the trick/command to get Rockbox to automatically default to the external SD card in the "Files" menu?

I know it was something simple, like holding down a button.  I just updated to the latest version and lost all my settings...

Press and hold the external_sd folder until the context menu appear. Then select "Start File Browser Here"

Hey buddies. Has anyone found any way to get more than three rows of text in the menus/file selections?

The only affecting setting I have found is the Settings/Theme/Base Skin where I use "classic_status bar" because it's the only one that gives me three rows, the others only two. I feel that there is definitely enough space on the screen to squeeze a good 6-7 rows of text/folders etc. but no base skin I have goes above three. Not a big issue of course, over all very happy, just throwing it out there.

You have to change the font size (smaller) and the line padding (spaces between the lines in pixels) then you can get more than 3 lines of text display.

I don't know if you need to change the font size. Try General Settings>Display>Touch Screen Settings>Line Padding in Lists and experiment with different numbers. I think the default value is 32 or so, I have mine set to 28 and get 4 lines on the screen. Be careful not to set it too low, you may have trouble getting back to it!

I use mine in the car a lot so don't like to have the lines too small, but if I was using it at home all the time I'd make them smaller.

Sorry for my late reply, Cub0ne. And no, I was not able to switch of the screen with a touchscreen button command. I tried to set the backlight timeout to "off" with a touch command and wanted to switch it on again, but it seems that the DX50 rockbox build ignores the touchscreen completely when display is off. I think the best way to switch off the screen is using the hold switch. Remember that 5+ years ago, before the smartphone invasion, this used to be the standard for any kind of portable devices, that is why rockbox code is also built that way.

Btw. I've published my modded theme on the rockbox page, D2 section with some more minor visual changes. It is called "naranjada"

Just press "Quote again while you have the "new post editor" open.

You mean cabbieV2, the one that is default. It is not possible from the selector (only after installing custom themes maybe?). You can select the cabbieV2 when you browse with file browser to /system/rockbox/app_rockbox/themes and select cabbiev2.cfg. First enable all filetypes on fileview. I don't know why this one is not shown in the themes selection. You could copy all the cabbiev2 files to /mnt/sdcard/rockbox. Most of the files needed are mentioned in cabbiev2.cfg.

i would search like that:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=coaxial+spdif&_osacat=14964&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC0.A0.H0.Xcoaxial&_nkw=coaxial&_sacat=14964

it is easier to find an "RCA-female"-"RCA-male" extension than a "mono headhone jack"-"RCA". But you can also try a regular RCA extension or a RCA-Headphone cable. Most of them will work. It is not such a big problem if the impedance of the cable is too high. The source usually has enough "digital" power.

Ah so that's where it was hiding! set it to 8px, now the menus are perfect, I get 8 lines of text and browsing is now as pleasant as a back rub! Thanks friends!

Has anyone tried using the parametric EQ on a rockboxed DX50? I have on an iPod Video and it starts slowing down the interface at seven active bands (that is, when seven bands or more have nonzero dB gain). I would be interested in a DX50 if all ten bands of EQ are usable. Thanks in advance to anyone who can test.

Since the CPU is an order of magnitude faster, I don't think its going to be a problem here.  The iPod Video is just really, really old and the EQ pushes the 80MHz CPU to the limit.
