So, I want to repair the connector on my Beat earphones, I use them at the gym and they still work fine, but the connector is damaged.  I was using the earphones and they were connected to my Ipad when the Ipad fell off the stand and I think a connection broke in the plug.  I am ready to cut the existing plug off, I fully understand how the 3.5 mm connector is wired, R, L, ground.  I am assuming that the flat cable is 4 conductor (no reason not to).  So my question, before I cut the connector off is " How the heck do I strip this flat 4 conductor cable?"  Figure to do the smart thing and ask before I start cutting.

All help is appreciated, and if this is discussed in another thread then just point me at it and I apologize for this post. :))

you mean beats headphones? my advice: get a new pair of cans. beats are among the lowest sound quality headphones available.

if you are bent on saving them then please explain what you mean by 4 conductor flqt cable. do you mean it has 4 wires in it? if so its got an inline mic as there is no other reason to have 4 if thats the case then youll need to make sure the new connector is compatible. strip it by pulling strands apart if possible and doing them one by one

I am not familiar with the specific cable. However guessing its just like any flat wire. In these scenarios I find it's best to use a razor blade to remove the insulation around the individual conductors. Just take it nice and easy, take care to not cut too deep. Once you get to individual conductors you can use a regular stripper, or continue using the razer blade. With round conductors what I usually do is put the conductor on a flat surface, press the blade against it, and roll the cable to get an even cut. Sometimes you just have to be brave and take a razor blade to your cables, good luck!

Thanks for the responses, I have yet to cut the cable, but the razor blade idea is where I was headed anyway.  I understand the sentiment about Beat cans, they are good for kids, not for me. These are my earphones that I use at the gym, on my bike and they are good for what they are, especially since I can use them on the phone
