REVIEW: SoundMagic HP200

I have the Audioengine D1 and the creative E5. Both should be able to drive them, but I don't know if they're a good match though.
I know that the AKG 700 are hard to amp and that's why I didn't consider them for my choice.
I'm a bit conflicted about the DT880. I read that they sound dry/harsh and the treble is peaky. As I said before, I don't mind treble as long as it's not too much.

The DT880 have a nice balanced sound, the sound is slightly on the bright side.

I own the two DT880 (250-Ohm and 600-Ohm) headphones.
But I'm currently using the HP200 (listening to Maxi Trusso Nothing at all) and feel that I have no need or want to switch over to the DT880.

Do you find the HP200 more engaging than the DT880?
Which one has the best soundstage and imaging in your opinion?

I fund the DT880 (Pro, 250 Ohm) more neutral than the HP200.  The DT880 is slightly brighter and has a smaller soundstage than the AKG Q701.  The HP200 is brighter and more closed still.  For the music I listen to and the source I use most (see my recent post), I prefer the bass-modded Q701 to both the DT880 and the HP200.  So, my decreasing preference order, among those three, is Q701 (bass modded), DT880, and HP200.  In case it helps you to calibrate my feedback, I find the HD598 to be too dark and too closed for the music I listen to, especially when used with a high-impedance source, such as my NAD 3130 (1987 vintage) received.  In fact, a reason why I keep the DT880 is that is sounds good from the NAD.  Again, this is my personal opinion.

I have not listened to my DT880 in a few years, they are currently buried in my storage locker.
Not sure I can offer a valid opinion on sound stage and imaging.

I didn't like the 598 for the same reasons. Mine was the special edition in black released for black Friday last year, which felt also incredibly cheap for its (full) price. It was such a disappointment considering how well regarded it is.
I'm starting to think that the DT880 might be more close to what I'm looking for.

I got these and I'm seriously underwhelmed.

The bass is just overpowering and unlistenable, the headphone sounds like nothing more than HP150 with steroida in the bass. It's double the bass power than HP150 or Fidelio X2 that I have by mile.

And there is a noise inside the roght driver as if there is a piece of paper stuck in it and flapping around as air goes through the headphones.

Defective unit maybe?

I posted Dale about this:

Hello Dale,

I've seen a lot of references of your posts across the web and I notice you're a great admirer of the HP200 headphones.

Based on the product descriptionand reviews they seemed like something I would dream of, since I already own the HP150 and I absolutely love them!

HP200 however as they arrived sounded like this:

Huge ... huge bass. Like overpowering muddy bass making the headphone unlistenable. Double the bass than it is on either HP150 or Fidelio X2s that I own and love. More so than E80 in ears.

Is that how they sound? I think they may be a defective unit cause everyone says they're balanced or even bright.

HP150 were just my perfect exciting closed cans, an open alternative of the same would just be awesome as I figured but I'm dsappointed.

I hope you could post your opinion on this matter, and if you think I could try purchasing other ones from another source.

Took a chance couple of days ago and ordered through amazon.

The headphone box was damaged but the shipping box wasn't and the headphone was falling off when I opened the box. Returned it.

Too bad, I like their in-ear's a lot
