No one has any feedback on what kind of battery life they are getting with the USB input and their choice of headphones?  Thanks.  -- Sanjay

Imusenthem Hugo daily. With CIEMS. I get about 8 hours or so. I would imagine that headphones would be less. I think it's fine and we all shloud play with it and do posts about hiw much time we get. Mine does something a little odd . Instead of going off it stop playing audio but the lights Ramain on.

Google, Hugo manual.  First hit is the PDF manual.  Optical and USB are different sounding.  Make sure you test it out with PC as source through optical at 24-192.  Have not tried DAP as digital source.  Look up what sampling rate they both offer, I would think the computer's optical or usb sould be the highest sampling rate.  The HD USB support higher rate of sampling than normal usb.  Just use HD USB and up the sampling rate under audio settings to 24-192kHz.  Hugo sounds great with wider genre of music than other sources I've tried. Hugo does better with wider genre than AK240.

If you want to you it as DAC, you can set the Hugo output level to 2V line level, the manual has details.  My NT6 sounded very resolving, I'm sure other iems will as well.  I wasn't keen on it as source for harder to drive cans.

If you are coming from the two DAPs, you will be impressed.  iphone 5, X5, DX90 wouldn't be able to compete in SQ. It's no comparison to save you the work.  Have fun.

Wow, just wow. I'm listening to Sandstorm by Finnish DJ Darude (a trance classic) with HD650s on Hugo and it sounds absolutely amazing. Those lush snyth melodies never sounded so good with headphones before. I think TH900s would be better with trance though. :) Hugo's smooth yet extended treble and somewhat forward sound signature is so great for trance and EDM in general.

I think it's time you explored the musical output of Finland's finest music export to date  :D

I know ABBA weren't from Finland, but I continue to blame the entire region for the fact that I spent a large chunk of my teens/twenties cringing each and every time they came on the radio. It's payback time, friend

Which CIEMS are you using and which input?
With my Shure 846 I get about 7 hours using the HD-USB input before the flashing red light.
With my Senn. HD800 I got about 7.5 hours before the flashing red light.
Both time playing the same music CD quality flac files and the volume at what I would listen to. i.e. not high but with the 800 the volume setting was off course higher than with the 846.

I sent an e-mail to Chord and they said probably 6-7 hours is correct as the USB input uses the most power and the battery time depends on the impedance of the headphones.

Still 7 hours feels low to me when on their web site they still advertise 14 hours. But if that is under some ideal condition with a certain input etc then that should be clarified I think.
I was thinking I should average maybe 10 hours. I've come across a couple of posts in this thread where they seem to say they are getting 12+ hours.

It's not a huge deal off course but I just want to have an idea so I have the proper expectations.
When I read it should last for 14 hours and it lasts for only 7 hours then that makes me wonder if there is something wrong with my unit.
If Chord had said that real life might be 6-8 hours then I would know I am getting the expected battery life.
But in every review I've read and quotes from the Chord personnel they always say the Hugo has a long battery life. For me 7 hours is not long battery life.

Thanks for the insight. I did already download the manual and the drivers and had gotten them installed. I will start with PC through optical as you suggested, but noted in the manual that COAX supported the highest resolution. Is optical just your preference or are you getting better SQ through optical? Have you experimented with the crossfeed mode to make any suggestions with the NT6?

With COAX input playing strictly WAV redbook files I get 9.5 hours on average driving Shure 846 at medium volume (dark red). If USB uses the most power I would extrapolate your 7 hours is normal. The CLAS DB that supplies digital COAX to my Hugo has a 12 hour battery life, so I wished I could have gotten something closer to that, but I am not complaining. Also I noticed battery life does not much matter regardless volume of Hugo so I suspect its amp stage is operating Class A.

I haven't tried COAX as I only had optical and usb available.  For some reason 24bit sounded better than 16(there was some loud hissing with usb at 16), and optical sounded better to my ears. I haven't played around with crossfeed extensively.  Do a search on Jude's posts here, he posted a Youtube track he believe makes a noticible difference with crossfeed settings.  The tracks I tried it with, it was hard to notice any differences.

Anyone knows if it is OK to leave the Hugo plugged into the wall wart whilst using it? Am planning to use it as a desktop DAC so it would be more convenient to just leave it plugged in whilst playing.

The more i listen to it, the more i am impressed with the dac. There isnt a dac at this price point that is as transperent and musical as the hugo. I hear so much more emotion of the vocals with this dac compare to other dacs. I heard the PS Audio directstream today playing pcm and though the soundstage is a bit bigger than the Hugo, it couldnt get me more connected to the music than hugo. DS is a 6,000 dac vs the Hugo which is 2400, and i really do prefer the Hugo with PCM. Dynamics are better, and the vocals and how it presents emotion is just top notch. I dont think most dacs out there can touch it below 6k.

Since when is price a measure for quality? -LOL
You can go to a two star michelin restaurant and still get a crappy meal!
Never underestimate the power of branding/advertising.

Price should always be a gauge for quality. Unfortutunitly it's not always in audio.

I think any DAC with an off-shelf DAC (such as BB, AKM, Sabre) should be priced less than USD 1000. Using an off-shelf dac is really lazy and cannot reproduce music as well as custom programmed dacs (I'm not saying all custom programmed dacs are great). Off-shelf dacs can be quite detailed but lack the musicality and timing qualities of custom programmed high-end dacs (of which one is Chord Hugo despite its rather affordable price). So when I see a DAC with an off-shelf chip such as Sabre and which is sold for USD 5.000, I can't stop laughing and feel sorry for the people who buy them. Maybe off-shelf dacs will be better and more advanced one day but it seems to me as time passes they become more and more detailed but also more and more unmusical and soulless. Some dac chips in CD players in 90s were much better sounding than the chips they make now.
