Ohhhh I see... Do you actually own the optical cable and tried it with the Hugo before? Just ask. :)
no I don't own it, but I know someone who did, and it didn't fit into the Hugo's optical input. He got rid of it on ebay.Use the optical cable you got with your Hugo it's just as good as any optical cable you can get.ive tried different cables and their is no difference in sound quality.save your money m8 and spend it on music.

i tried it and found it made this worse for me , i also tried a offramp 5 . but if you can borough one why not try. feeding it from my caps units made a notable improvement
but with the ap 1/pp it made it too bright and took the shine off the muisc . but this is me and currawang felt it helped so its worth a try.

Al, do you have a preference for the Optical or USB input ? I have driven myself crazy going back and forth.

Thanks for your recommendation! :)

Is the Hugo of your friend comes with old case or new case? I know that the old case does not fit with the WireWorld but haven't try the new case yet. I have asked Steve from Cable Company to give it a try, let's hope it can pass. :p

Regarding SQ of optical cables, I do feel optical cable with good glass fibre are better than plastic fibre. Just my view.

I've frequently found that I get a lot of distortion when I first fire up the Chord Hugo. I usually have to stop a track and restart it before everything returns to normal. This happens with the Hugo connected via usb to my MacBook Pro and ipad. Just wondering if anybody else has the same problem?

Nope don't get any distortion issues, have the same setup, you using the USB HD input?

I tried it a few times. One result was with a an240 and my hibino hdpr10
In optical. As transport. The ak240 wa better but not a home run better very close as such I returned the ak240
Next an iphone 5 with camera adaptor.
And compared it to CPU with USB the cpu was better but not by much.
Next I tried my UMT plus as a transport
USB and optical as well. They were a deadlock I could no tell at all but the Hugo
Does play DSD 128 over optical with the cables supplied
Lastly I tried my caps server over USB this result was very good but not conclusive over the UMT plus better.
What I think is going on is the hugo is good but only as good as it is.
As such I think one may be better but it's beyond what the Hugo can show.
This was done with hd800 headphones and a variety of music as reference and PCM and DSD
All stuff I know well.

Limited by MacBookPro  SPDIF Optical Digital AUDIO Output ...

Ahh thank you, head scratching session over, decided to try the USB output on the other side of the MacBook (the USB port on the opposite side to the Power and Thunderbolt connections) and presto now the glare and harshness has gone over USB, much smoother IMO
