Hi there

I received my DX90 a couple of days ago and am really pleased with the sound but having a few problems getting it to play albums in track order.

I've got a vinyl needle drop recording I made and I used audacity to number and label the tracks and the DX90 plays them out of order. I am not using shuffle mode.

It's done the same with the flac downloads that came with a vinyl LP. Surely these would labelled correctly by the Record Company so should play in order on the DX90.

Has anyone else had these problems - anyway round them?

Also, I'm going to digitise my vinyl collection - what's the best way to go about labelling them - audacity? mp3tag?
And do you think I should try to recreate the vinyl experience by simply recording Side A/Side B or should it be track by track (if they can be played in order!)?

Any opinions and help please.

If you have your files correct with the track number at beginning, they will surely play in order via Directory?

Or if playing by Artist/Album you need track number correct in Tag. Mp3tag very quick to edit them.

Which method of playback are you using?

... Note, I'm using 10x gain because it is the dt880 600ohm. Though, I have to say, I don't really go anything higher than 9oclock on the volume knob.

It looks like too high of a gain. Set it to a lower gain, 4X or lower and see if that helps with the noise.

Yep, make that volume pot work for a living. If you're getting noticeable floor noise with 600ohm cans, the gain is very likely too high.

You may also find out that tubes are pretty susceptible to EMI. I have to keep my router a fair distance away from my amps.

Now I really want to get one to go with my Westone W40...
Is Mp4nation the best store to buy from if I am in the US?
What is the warranty? I tried but really don't want to find info from this 300+ pages post...

I received my DX90 yesterday and ordered it from ProStudio Sound & Music via Amazon.com. I wanted a U.S. seller as I'm still in the evaluation stage (but I really like it with one day use). So, in the event I decide to return it within their 30 day return policy, my domestic shipping charge won't be outrageous.  I paid $439 and received it in **two** days.

Some times it goes through the x-ray machine twice but beyond that no problems

  My DX90 just arrived. Wow!

I pulled the sd (64G) out of my J3 and put it in and scanned. No problems - I thought I'd have issues as I'd read you should only have music files on the card - but I have cover.jpg file in every album directory. Works fine and displays the album art no problem.

Driving my also-new Alpha Dogs - sounding damn good!

What's best way to ask for feature requests?

I listen to Classical by album which I've encoded as the piece (not the album it was on) and everything else is encoded as "Pop". So my favourite listening mode for Pop is by Genre then ALL tracks on Random (which you can do on the J3). After selecting Genre the only option is to drill down to via Artist then Album.

Update: there does seem to be a problem with album art. As I said, it seemed to work fine. But ... when I powered off and came back and tried to get in, it just sat at the Welcome screen FOREVER. It just sits there flickering ever 10 seconds or so. Well, a really long time - like 5 minutes. After that it did seem to be working again as normal.

I've just tested this. I removed all the Album art .jpg's and did a factory reset, and rescan. Now when I power off and back on, it does a quick scan and is back up in ... less than 30 seconds. Oh ... just checked .. it's back again. I put it on USB and took it off, and now it's back to taking FOREVER to boot up ... now it really IS forever - I gave it 15 minutes before I did a factory reset.

How good are iBasso at fixing their firmware ... he wonders ... ??

Hi Everyone,

1.  I would like to hear some comparisons of DX90 versus HM901, DX100, Terra, etc.  The best there are out there.  Does the DX90 REALLY raise the SQ bar that high to be considered in the same league with players such as these?

2.  Believe it or not, I'm currently using a Sony Pro Walkman, WMD6C, which uses cassette tapes recorded on itself from my old Grace 707 - Supex 901 combo that has long since died.  Is this thing capable of even better sound?  If you have used a WMD6C, you know it's pretty formidable.

3.  Recommended earphones, IE or over ear??  also brand, please.  I am an old Dinosaur Audiophile who spends a ton of time at the gym...and GREAT SOUND is a MUST!!!

SQ means EVERYTHING to me...size, gapless playback, etc., are irrelevant to me.  Good UI and the ability to make a simple song list are important, however.

Thanks...

Burn in cable in the headphone out and any gain at volume. Just let it play. I use the IsoTek burn in cd and let it play every time I don't use the DX90.

Jim, please read the threads. Many people prefer the DX90 over the AK120 and DX100, other people say it's about 90% on the way of a AK120 or DX100.

Is it safe to use the LO of the dx90 directly with iems? Just curious...

Yes you can do so since you can control the volume. But I would't use it because the output impedance is too high (10Kohm+) not only for iems but for any phones as well. Read about the effect of high output impedance on headphones.
