by the way does the DX90 supports DSD file?

Not natively. It plays .dsf files but convert them to pcm before passing them to the dac

I thought the whole idea of the DX-90 was to do away with an amp stack......

Anyway, which amp is that?

At least for me it is coming from DX50. Adding an amp I have which is a must with DX50 is no longer adding much improvement except if I use a full size headphone.

In most cases there is no "need" to amp the DX90 and I wouldn't go out and buy an amp for it, but I already had the SR71-B and all my phones are balanced and in the configuration it does make a meaningfull difference

I think I made the best decision after reading the op review impression, it present music the way it is supposed to be and has alot of micro detail, oh yes I'm very excited now:yum::yum::yum::yum:... CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

You should have waited for a while and do a side by side comparison since you already had the X5 before you decide which one to keep and which one to sell.

Reading someone else's impression is only helpful to a point. But it will always be your ear that should be the final judge. You may have a different headphone and different music genre and might have different preferences from the impressions you already read.

+1, True.

Let's be honest here, there is absolutely nothing wrong with amping a player, the manufacturer has provided a LO for that very reason. What if my external amp is better than the player? To provide an impression with and without an amp helps in defining sq improvement when going externally compared to internally, that's useful. I am not always in a commute mode when listening to the player, quite a few times I am at home and want to listen to my cans, even though the player in my situation can take it, I like to amp the player because to my ears it sounds better.

Audiophiles,

I have had my Ipods and now with the classic, 7th. gen loaded with lossless/wav files, no MP3 here, and actually enough for 1 1/2 classics. when you are my age the collection files a room.
Been waiting for the right device and narrowed down to DX90 and X5.
I'm going to need at least at 256G card which costs and arm and a leg.
I've noticed everyone here using 64/128G cards, so what are you guys doing swapping cards in and out???
