Absolutely and unfortunately.
If a new car from the dealer cost 10.000 we then pay 18.000 on top of that in car registration tax and then we pay another 25% on top of the 28.000 in sales tax giving a grand total paid of 35.000. To sell cars at all in Denmark this means that the net price from the manufacturer is probably the lowest in the world but after taxes the prices are probably the highest in the world. The average tax on wages is >50%. To counter all this we probably also have some of the highest average wages in the world. And petrol cost over $2 per liter.
We do have a lot of benefits for our taxes. Universal health care, essentially free schools all the way to and including universyties (and the students over 18 years get paid to study) and many other things. Different ways of organizing a society.
How many toothless guys hit you up for change on freeway off ramps?
