D marc0's Journal: My Head-fi Journey

I had the 1plus2 for a while and whole they were awesome I wasn't completely sold on them. The mids were overly recessed for my taste.

They were however the best IEM that I have heard but at this point in time I would rather invest it into a nice headphone setup.

Not what you said in the first 3 hours of hearing them. O_o I remember that day, Sir Lin. Somewhere logged in a msg.

Yeah, when I first heard them I was quite shocked cos I was hearing things I had never heard before and the soundstage and imaging was amazing. However, after a bit more listening I realised that the mids were too recessed for me and I had to EQ them up a bit to make them just right for me. The bass and treble was everything I wanted in an IEM, but the mids were a bit of a deal breaker for me. Had the mids been more forward, I would have definitely bought them.

Then, the build quality... Those on the tour will probably know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is my initial impressions were that the 1plus2 was amazing and I just HAD to own it, but after a bit more I came to my senses a bit and decided maybe I was better off with a full sized setup. Don't get me wrong though, the 1plus2 is still the best IEM I have ever heard technically, but a few factors kept me from buying it.

Exactly, I think most were swept away at first. Why I stressed to you to let them settle in before you leaped on them. And it paid off.

Uncle H20 looking after you!

Now we should leave this thread before Mark calls In the bouncers.

Can't wait to get my hands on the UM IEM... Are you joining the tour?

IMO listening to TOTL iem's keeps everything is perspective
You've listened to best, now you can judge every other earphone/headphone accurately
That's why I'm doubtful of random's hyping up cheap IEM's when clearly they haven't tasted the finer side of audio...

Sick review dmarc0! 10/10

^ Agreed with the latter.

But shouldn't it be the other way around??? Case in point is the crazy resurgence of MH1Cs HYPE from many of these TOTL fan bois that seems to never had much experience with budget-fi stuff.  Wannabe_Bridies MH1 spazzes is a great example of this.

Listening to cheapos that punches higher than their price tag has taught me to appreciate more of the subtle nuances/ refinements of the mid-fi stuff, and will no doubt make me appreciate THAT much more of the TOTL gears when in the future.  But it is EASY, really easy to dismiss/  not appreciate the magic of el cheapo "giant-killers" if your ears has been already spoiled by summit-fi stuff.

It's easy to go forward but it's pretty hard to go backwards in this hobby once you got a taste of the GOOD stuff if you knowhatimeng.

I'm not sold on wanting a TOTL iem yet. If I never listen to one, then I might have a chance. At first I was wanting to find "the one", which led me to getting the CKS1000's, H200's and M200's, and I always thought that I'd be keeping one and selling the others. But I am very satisfied with all three - they all sound great to me, and I really enjoy having the different signatures for different genres or just for when I want a change. I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune down the road, but for now I'll just keep those damned TOTL's away from my ears lol!

+1

Probably the most damaging IEM I've heard that makes it hard going back to mid tier is the revised Tralucent 1plus2 (not the one reviewed above). The revised version not only excelled technical and detail ability that it pushed even further into the music bringing out 'emotion' one that could almost make you cry or become teary, a new level of absorbing music. Once I experienced that some of my tracks haven't sounded the same since, because my other IEM can't do that. Not even my $650 Hybrid.

^ Maybe you paid too much for your hybrid??? Cuz those Sony XBA-H3 seems to be doing it for someone. hoho

Lets just say I acquired my Rhapsodio RDB v1 Mini for quite bit less than $650. However it was far from free.

^ Raa. rap hasoo....di..lios??? Speak Engrish man, ENGRISH!!! That uppity Summit-fi lingo i can't even pronounce. haha j/k

Never read about them, and sure as hell never heard of them as well. But it seems like they go for like $1K and up, so you got a pretty sweet price from them it seems.  BUT the new sub $500 crop of hybrids are REALLY kicking up some serious dust so the performance gap between the Summit-fi iems are getting smaller and smaller with each new release it seems.

Interesting tymes indeed.

^ Nah fat chance, when they drop for $200 and lower i might cop a set. These H3s might be the real deal it seems unlike the unwarranted hype of the JVC FXZ200s, but peps were going literally nuts during the initial 200s hype phase as well and look where they are now, FOTM material within a year that can't even stand up to lots of the $100 iems being released today.

I have found that having your personal price standards is the best method to resist the hype. So HYPE ON YA'LL cuz i ain't moving. Just enjoying da' show.

Thanks guys!

I did find the mids recessed upon initial listen especially because I came from other hybrids with either forward lower mids or upper mids.
But after training my ears by just listening solely to the 1plus2 for a week I've come to accept the neutrality in the mids.
I still prefer the edginess of guitars with the H-200 or the lush forward vocals in the M200 but that's my preference.
So that's why I didn't consider the mids in the 1plus2 a let down but there's nothing spectacular either except for its great detail retrieval and imaging.

Yeah lol.

Can't wait to get my hands on the UM IEM... Are you joining the tour?

Yes, I am, they surely have my interest. :)

These are exciting times indeed with all the new hybrids getting released.

I'm patiently waiting as well. Pretty sure the prices will go down in less than a year.

I'm a little concerned about the UM hybrid tour, the price is right in my line of firing range. I really don't need anymore IEM trying to tear my wallets testicles off.

I'm meant to be focusing on one last full-size headphone and calling it quits for a while (meaning purchases)

So in some ways I hope it under performs.
