So do most people prefer the X1 through HO or LO?

For my pairing with H-300 I enjoy X1 enough from headphone out (quite a lot) I haven't really bothered amping.

I would go as far to say with the right pairing I prefer X1 HO by a decent margin over my DX50 HO.

Just curious. I've always heard that LO would provide a "cleaner" output signal than HO. My ears couldn't tell a difference though with the X1.

i have and I prefer the E12. The E12 had more low end in my opinion than the hp out.

That is exactly what I did not like. The E12 felt overly warm for my taste.

I've done some extensive testing with the X1 vs the X1 + E11K, and I personally find myself preferring the latter pairing.

The X1 by itself seems to be relatively more squashed towards the centre, the conventional Fiio sound (I do use the word relative, because the X3 is even more so IMO). The X1 standalone also sounds slightly more forward in its presentation.

The X1 + E11K is more expansive imo. Stereo separation and soundstage as a result become slightly better. The presentation also becomes slightly more laid back. I also find it to be slightly more resolving.

I must say though, the Kogan MP4 player is more detailed than either setups, but also thinner sounding, less refined, and lacking in the low frequencies. It is also, of course, less than half the cost of the X1 by itself, and purely with regards to SQ, is the ultimate bang for buck player.

But when you add in UI and build quality, the X1 is equally good value IMO.

Some pics of the wood grain stickers applied :D  Not bad at all if I may say so myself...but a real pain to apply with these 49 year old shaky hands

That looks a lot cooler than I imagined it would without trying it.
I'm afraid to even attempt putting them on since I am such a perfectionist, they would need to be perfect and I also have some pretty shaky hands.
I also wonder how difficult they would be to get off after being on for a while.
Fiio should make some more stickers that we could buy on their website, or at least buy replacements of the ones already included.
A 2-piece snap-together hard-case would be cool too, like the ones sold for smartphones.
I like the black cover that comes with the unit, but the dust and lint and stuff really sticks to it a lot.

Very nice. Love the matching background!
Seems like a good time to post my carbon fibre on carbon fibre that I never took to this thread. :D

Yep, synergy is a bitch. Speaking of the hybrid tuning before the Brainwavz S5 is tuned like that and the X1 works well to push the bass in line and tame the treble nicely. Good pairing there.

Pair well with my Gigabeat stock buds. Stock buds but excellent esp. with the right pairing. I have a CKR9 on loan right now and it can't beat the Toshiba out of the HO and supposedly the X1/CKR9 pairing is a good one from a couple of other impressions. Not blasphemy as I pretty much paid $60 to get the buds again by buying a Toshiba player I really didn't need to get them :) My first pair I did trade and the new owner liked them as much as his Senn HD580. No slouch but the synergy puts it over the top and optimizes it.

That said my E11K will come today and I'll see how I feel. I expect the pairing will be tighter, more open, more punchy bass-wise, and have better dynamics. I know from impressions that the CKR9 scales and likes power. I know from the past the Toshiba likes power. So does my CD666 and Shure SRH144. The E11K hardware bass boost should do even better than the X1 EQ for a bud like my Sony MDR-E0931.

Really enjoying the X1!!!  Is it just me or would anyone else like the ability to have the screen turn on when pressing any button, particularly the back button, so you can get back and see the directory without having to press the power button.  Hope James and Joe put this in future firmware.

It was a pain in the rear for sure. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to stick very well, at least on the slightly curved top. As these are vinyl(fairly tough), and only if you really like it, you might need a stronger glue to hold it down for the long haul. I agree 100% on the need for more cases, and a clear hard case would be ideal to show off the stickers whilst protecting them. You getting all this Fiio
