That guy was just stupid. I'd never whip a horse's ass, but if I did, in a theoretical scenario, I wouldn't stand anywhere in a kick range. I had a class mate a loooong time ago, who got kicked in her belly by a horse. She was in the hospital for a long time afterwards. I did however once get a headbutt from a horse. I wanted to pet it, and it didn't want me to. He headbutted me gently, but hard enough to crack my lip.
 
I learned two three things that day: Horses are vicious, stay the hell outta their way and the only way a horse gets close to me again is as meat on my sammich.

You have to watch their feet in all situations. One horsey trick is that when you are standing near them, being nice - they will just casually lift a hoof, and then bring it down right on your foot - that can break bones!

Of course, it's not just horses that are vicious...
