Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

I'm pretty excited folks....I've got my order and impressions in for a K10!

Now just the agonizing wait....

I'm looking getting these in my ears and seeing how they stack up against my 8.A. (which I still use every day and enjoy immensely)

Congrats, but if I'm not wrong.. didn't you wait very patiently for the M8? So this wait should feel like a breeze

 I hope for you..

Yes, you are correct! Waited around 10 months for that. Then I went and sold it.... afterwards realized the depth of my foolishness and re-ordered one. I'm now waiting AGAIN for an ETA of March for that to ship. I've got some serious waiting chops. I wait with the best of them. No problem.

Maybe the K10 and M8 will be ready around the same time? I'm really looking forward to hearing the K10 on the Centrance setup. The Heir 8.A and 4.A with it are a fantastic pairing. Other than the bulky size, everything I could want out of a portable setup.

I don't know about the K10, obviously since I don't have it... :)  but the N8 universals that I have pairs sublime with the M8. For some strange reason in gain 1 and adding the 10 Ohm impedance. It doesn't quite make sense to me.. but it just pulls away in a positive way from what I thought should be efficiently enough to drive the N8 properly. I can describe it as curtain in front of some already decent speakers being removed...

Anyway,, good luck with the K10 and M8. Your patience will reward you in the long run and you will never make the same mistake again...

Good to hear the universals are working well with it....

I found the CIEM's are fantastic with the M8. Maybe it's the clean DAC, amp section, lots of extra headroom, whatever...I prefer CIEM's on the M8 more than full cans. M8 does fine with them but better with in-ears. My opinion, my preferences, of course.

As far as the impedance setting, do you know the M8's impedance switch is left to right 10, 2, 1 ohm? It's the opposite of what makes sense. I used mine for a few weeks on the far left setting, thinking it was 1 ohm, never even bothered to try the others. Then when I found it was wired the other way, switched it to 1 ohm and WOW the bass and overall focus tightened up significantly. "pulled away" to use your words!

I'm sure the K10 will be great. No doubt. And I won't make the same mistake and part with my 2nd M8...Ha ha

Anyone else out there using the Centrance gear with the K10's?

Yes, I know the impedance switching and their order.. :) It caused some confusion for some..

Okay, here we go... I believe that increasing the impedance actually benefits the N8 universal, due to crossovers and impedance swing, it actually controls the their upper/mid bass level better and thereby gave more room for the midrange and not sacrificing the upper treble.

The gain at level 1 actually brings the M8 to it's real line out level, which is also conformed by Centrance to use gain 1 at near max for line out analog level when feeded into another amp.

Of course I don't listen to IEM"s a that level unless I want to loose my hearing in a few minutes :)  but the gain 1 seems like what I have experienced to be the optimal setting, even with the N6 and maybe other IEM's. I alsoI prefer my Ety 4ERs as well at this setting.

I strongly suspect that any given IEM with multiple BA crossovers will behave differently so no general rule to be set, just that the M8 seems very versatile and maybe can accommodate to a variety of  IEM's due to the M8's many combinations of little hardware implanted switches....81 possibilities/options, right?

That makes sense that many different IEM configurations would respond differently to the output impedance. Nice to have that for fine tuning.

81 possibilities! I've never thought of it that way. But you may as well double that up due to the single ended and balanced outputs as well. Right?

Anyhow, to stay on topic....Kaiser 10! :)

You mean N6? I didn't know that there was a Noble 8 universal...

Would also like to see it against the UM Mentor.

I only demo'ed the K10 briefly, so cant give too much impression on it, it's been a week since i listened, and whats left of K10 in my mind was the bass (sounded natural and full in quantity), details are there and overall sound is thicker and warmish/dark

The mentor is also slightly warm/dark, imo, the mentor's overall sound presentation is very spacious and airy, the layering of the sound is excellent. But the pairing with my AK120 wasnt great as the top/bot extension could be better. The sound gets much better if amp'ed.

Now with X5 coming in, i am sure i need to give the K10 another go, and if possible, pair it up with a few aftermarket cables.

Heir Audio - banned from HeadFi? I'm sure there's a story there somewhere, but I don't know what it is. Is this permanent? Dunno that either. Is it just that one user? Are there other Heir MOTs floating around? Again, I have very little info, but obviously something must have gone down.

It probably means that there is conclusive evidence that Heir was trying to smear/sabotage Noble, but I'm guessing this won't be up for further discussion on head-fi. It sure is interesting, though...

Yeah, I suppose it's best not to focus on it or discuss it too much in this thread. Just wanted to point it out as an interesting tidbit. Nothing more.
