The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Oh, sorry to hear that the crossfade still occurs even with the latest 1.2.8 firmware. I thought that the DX50 sounded a little brighter and clearer (compared to my FiiO X3) when I auditioned it then, but was also wondering about the various issues with the UI or bugs.

It's not the same crossfade that annoyed me on 1.2.6. Its just like snipping a tiny bit at both ends of the song.

I see. Some people like the effect, some don't. And I think it also depends on the song being played. If it's supposed to begin with a firm beat/voice, I guess this issue would be a bit annoying. For example, imagine Celine Dion's opening sentence in "Treat Her Like a Lady" fading in during the first second of the track.. It could get frustrating.. haha!

A couple of notes on modifying the firmware.

1) It's easy to enable adb, see /bin/openadb in original firmware and modify build.prop accordingly. Or just download https://mega.co.nz/#!Ih5QTJzI!0DXEqNgJBWeK1QFqTeOhXW5KaH6LP4Vi0M38Wtd2PZM
(WARNING, not for end users - adb will replace mass storage USB mode).

2) Sound system is OpenMAX-based, and among other things it has an ALSA sink, see /dev/snd.
That means that you can, for example, compile https://github.com/tinyalsa/tinyalsa using android ndk and play wav files with tinyplay bypassing original mangoplayer.

If any other developers interested, we could try to port rockbox or make some improvements to original firmware.

Way above my pay grade but sounds very cool to me or probably would (geddit?).

I hope this happens.

If you are talking about the random volume going loud, I have told iBasso about it, they are still investigating it. The only problem with that is if you can't duplicate it reliably which means they won't be able to diagnose it and fix it. This is the only issue on the DX50 that I find totally unacceptable, it is just plainly bad for your hearing. It does not do that on the LO.

crazy thing! As i'm using custom one ears this is pretty shocking.....i had two moments were i literally "jumped" up in the subway....must have looked very weird.

Definitely not a good thing!  Very bad for the hearing.

I had a few sudden volume increases on earlier FW releases - none since upgrading.  I'm at the latest and haven't had that issue.  What FW release are you at?

i'm on a customized version of the 1.2.8 (a mix of 1.2.5 and 1.2.6 with all functionalities of 1.2.8)

I am on 1.2.8 and it still happens.

indeed...so as the custom version
did you repeat some "actions" while that happened??
it freights me too cause I use it like 2 hours a day and I try yo care of my hearing

only action i repeat is skipping songs....

I guess the only way to avoid this,  is to use an amp via line out and power the volume on the DX50 up to 255 and control the volume via amp.....so i hope my amp will arrive very soon...should these couple of days!

Yes that is what I do. But also I am sitting still on a train. I never walk around with music in my ears.

Regarding the volume spikes:

That's really discouraging that it's still happening, it happened to me once and hasn't happened since I updated to 1.2.3 beta. I really hope they can get it under control for both the end user and for ibasso's sake as well; beyond the tarnish their reputation would face but as well any lawsuits that could arise from permanent ear drum damage (I'm pretty sure no one here signed anything that would excuse ibasso of culpability).

Errr... anyone else trying to get to ibasso.com? Every browser I try is unable to find it. Could they be updating their site to release the dx90??!!! Everybody cross fingers!

Hi

I havent spend time with what is needed for a port but i would love to see rockbox on the dx50!

Im a cpp coder (comp.eng) but im not sure about the time that the process needs.
Im up for discussion though.

Hi!

Looks like rockbox for android is close to run at dx50, we only need to replace a few drivers accessing jni with native linux ones (almost matching code can be found in rockbox for hosted ports).
I've managed to draw at framebuffer, output sound and capture keys/touchscreen events at dx50 using simple cpp code in ndk.
