Greetings all,
This is my first post on the board having followed this thread for many weeks now. I just got my DX50 and wanted to share my first impressions from my POV of a noob. I'm not an audiophile by the standards of many here but I do have a quest for high quality listening and a love of music. My point of reference so far is listening via my Macbook using itunes with Bitperfect app a Nuforce Udac2 and Sony MDR-V6. A basic first set-up for me.
So here it is:
Ordered from MP4Nation on 10/16, got delivery notice Monday 10/29 and it was at my door on Tuesday morning! I'm considering my experience with MP4Nation excellent as they performed exactly as promised. (haven't tried out the free Brainwavz R3's yet)
Mine was batch 6, I think and came with 1.2.2 firmware. And, it came fully charged which was a bonus.
I read the great FAQ thread and everything else on this thread so I was not sure what to expect when I first used the DX50 but I'm very pleased with the ease of getting it started.
I loaded a Sandisk 64GB micro SD with about 50GB of music that was a mix of ALAC, AAC and MP3. I did this by simply drag and drop all of the folders from the itunes music folder on my Mac. I was worried about all the tagging issue etc. I've heard but I just copied everything over exactly as itunes created it.
Next, I plugged micro SD card into the DX50 and turned it on. (the 4 second hold for the button is no big deal for me, that's how my IOS devices work to power up)
I instantly saw my folders on the DX50. Cool! I hit "Play" and got the "Scanning" message. I was in for a wait, but it lasted only about 30 seconds or so then the first song started.
I only had time this morning to listen to three songs, so I won't comment on SQ yet or other advanced operations. But, I will say that going from the box to listing to hi-rez music only took about 8 minutes and I'm a happy camper!! I'm using my MDR-V6 on the High Gain setting and liking that sound as it compares to the uDac i'm used to.
So, this is just a first impressions report, and I can't wait to play with it more but my initial reactions are:
-Really easy and intuitive to set up (with hindsite from this forum)
-Touch screen is nicer than I thought it would be, good feel, sensitive enough and reactive.
-Overall build and feel is way better than I thought, feels good.
-UI seems more than enough for my needs but I'm sure I'll find something I wish was different as we all do with just about anything.
-If this first use is indicative of future use, I love this player!
So, thanks to all of you who have tested prior batches and FW versions and reported back, it's a great help to noobies like me.
Thanks,
Scott
