The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

It's this  have fun!

I'm struggling between this firmware and 1.2.8

custom firmware offers:
-spacious soundstage
-better instrument separation
-airy sounding
but lacking in:
-bass depth
-bass quantity
-thin body

1.2.8 sounds thicker, with more bass quantity and deepness. however it lacks of spaciousness. custom firmware is more detailed sounding as well.

custom firmware is more revealing.

and oh, vocal position and mids instrument placement is kinda different. it feels like the mid is recessed in custom firmware and vocal is slightly forwarded.

You kinda lost me there. Vocals is in the mids. You're statement is rather conflicting.

  No, I don't have DX90, only DX50 and HDP-R10

Thanks for your answer. Now, get a dx90!

Just kidding, thanks for your contributions!

Forget the first Sound Explosion, it's now Mega. For me Doc 2008 has done something really rather special:)

Sounds great, a DX-50 transformed. Extremely well done DOC2008.

Note: the links are via Bing Translator, so you need to go direct to the link after translator asks you.

Any comments or impressions of the SQ of this mega Sound Explosion versus the standard 1.2.8 firmware?

Had a go with the mega sound explosion. Impressions are that i detect no discernible difference in the SQ between this and the stock 1.2.8.

It seems that the backlight is brighter now and the touchscreen is ain't as sensitive anymore which is a huge plus! Also, the font, background etc looks nicer now. Thumbs up!

The boot-up screen shows DX90 haha.

But under the advanced settings, the firmware indicates Model: DX50 but with FW1.2.9. Which seems weird.

Just reporting in about the issue I was having with my DX50 not playing songs in order randomly a week or two ago.

A solution was never found though reinstalling the firmware and leaving gapless off I haven't had it occur again.

Reinstalling firmware, which I suggested weeks ago, makes sense.  But turning off gapless, well, you either have something wrong with your tagging or there are ghosts in your machine.

I'm scared to turn gapless back on actually. I just want my DX50 to play in order.

Really bums me out when I'm laying down listening to an album and only get the first and last song.

To my ears, sound explosion is a clear step up from 1.2.8 . I am not so sure about the "mega" mod though, I don't hear any difference so far. But consider that I use the dx50 without an external amp, so it might as well be that I don't really know the true capabilities of the dx50 and therefore can't hear further improvements.

Okay so I've installed the new firmware, going to try this for few hours..
mind you that I'm using Hifiman RE-0 through the HO. not LO..

The most noticeable change are the highs, it extend slightly better than 1.2.8. vocal sounds brighter and there's more hint of sibilance.

It's somewhere in between the warmer, thicker mid official 1.2.8 and bright sounding DOC's first Custom Firmware(the non-mega explosion thinggy ). its like 1.2.8 with extended high and balanced towards bright sounding while keeping the delicate thick mids.

I've yet to heard improvement in soundstage, but separation are slightly improved.. I like this version better because there's hint of brightness in the vocal and the cymbal sounds nice.

I don't really speak English, please forgive my writing skill :)
I don't know when should I use "is" or "are"..

DOC you're doing a great job with this firmware, it's more detailed and balanced than warmer 1.2.8 but still keeping the warm hint. I like it
however the soundstage isn't as wide as earlier custom firmware :S oh well you can't expect to have everything!
