  The DX50/BH2 Combo Rocks

The DX50 has been bugging me for a while in that it sounds really good with great clarity and detail and even some texture, but is lacking in dimension making it feel flat, analytical/digital (in a bad way), and without any emotional quality. Even worse, the sound completely falls apart at lower listening levels with my better headphones. After reading about other's positive experience with the C&C BH2, I decided to try it again and wow, did that little guy ever cure the DX50's issues. However, I found that I had to use the correct HP to be able to take advantage of its strengths.

HD595: With my HD595 there was really no difference. Apparently while the HD595 excels at bringing out full detail, texture, and sub bass for optimal low level listening at night, it lacks the ability to use the additional power to transform the sound at higher listening levels.

Hidition NT6 Pro: Using my Hidition NT6 Pro, it was a day and night difference. Now I can feel the music with added dynamics - the bass and sub bass pops out as 3D with emotion playing off the sounds around it, the texture really pops across the spectrum, and even the midrange is sweeter and more lush. The BH2 allows the full extension on both sides of the spectrum that both the DX50 and NT6 Pro are capable. This combo also allows full dynamics at lower listening levels, although it really shines at moderate to high listening levels.

LCD2: Unfortunately, I have a short in the left side of my stock cable so I was unable to test with the combo, but the BH2 drives the LCD2 well using my C3 so I expect it to work well with the DX50 as well. I will update when I get my new Artemis Cables "Arrow" cable that is coming later this week.

Well I took the plunge earlier this week and bought a second hand DX50 from a guy on here and can't wait to get it next week......especially seeing as most of the major bugs seem to have been ironed out with the recent FW upgrades.

I hope it pairs well with my custom DreamEarz AUD-8x......especially seeing as I have just sold my AK120 (couldn't warrant keeping a DAP that expensive for the use it gets)......from what I have read on here I should hopefully be impressed with it, especially for the price.

I'm going to see how it sounds with the AUD-8x directly out to start off with.....but may look at adding an amplifier for home and office use......possibly the Fiio D12 (get to use the coaxial out for the HiRes music) and of course the D12 has Dual Wolfson DAC's.....the same as in the AK120......might even bring the sound of the DX50 to the same level as the AK120 for half the price!!

You meant an iBasso D12. You won't regret it with the coax in and the dx50 coax out, it's an amazing match.

Rudi, do you have a top ten favorite "line out, amp only" pairings with the DX50 in order of preference - maybe SQ rating scaled 1 to 10 for perspective? Do you have the BH2, and if so, where would it fit on the list?

I don't have and haven't BH2 amp

Please share and guess here , which amp has the best SQ and synergy with DX50 ?

Thank you

God, I thought I had lots of amps, pale in comparison to you. You got an amazing collection. I am not going to venture a guess, lots of them in there I have never owned. Please do us the honor to rank them.

Yes, synergy will be the key, I'm fairly confident though anything that worked well with the amp previously will benefit, why people are reportiing such good results.
We already know how well C3/BH paired together but using  true line out from DX50 improves on that greatly, plus DX50 is pushing a much stronger line in signal.
I'm keeping DX50/BH tied together for a few days. The amp tucks away neatly under DX50, as well there's no real hanging out bulk, kind of hides underneath.

I noticed something today. When it appears that my unit gets stuck on "scanning media" screen, it s not really stuck. If you hold the power button down for a few seconds the "option to shut down" screen appears. If I tap on the house icon in the top right corner I am taken to the now playing screen.

Finally received it! Here is my rig:

Player: DX50
External amp: Meier Audio Quickstep
Headphone: Vision Ears (Compact Monitors) Stage 3 custom IEM
Cables: Line cable is DIY from Qables silver cable, CIEM cable is DIY from Plus Sound Audio copper cable

I'm not gonna leave much comments though as DX50 is still very new and I'm not a good one writing reviews too. I do not have nor I do not prefer to own multiple equipments like many do as a hobby :). I always test on stuffs of what I wish for or go for something that absolutely suit my need. So, I was amazed with the Vision Ears Stage 3 and it is now the only CIEM with me at all time. Same with the Meier Audio Quickstep and it will surely end my portable rigs for an external amp matching with the ultra sensitive CIEM. I absolutely love this amp.

Now comes to the DX50, as I've mentioned, I'm not going to leave much comments. But one thing for sure I can share my experience with, is the difference between the phone out and line out. I bought the DX50 purely as a line out source, I've never bother to look into much if the built in amp behaved well or not, I bought the DX50 because it has a line out. And I can pretty much confirm that the line out is a way huge improvement over the headphone out. It is just so obvious which make me even so of not bothering with the headphone out which I've not been intended to use with the DX50. But I'll reserve the statement when I need to bring along just as minimum as possible during vacations. :)  Also, the only comments I can give to the DX50 is, it is quite bass heavy and slightly towards brighter side to me. Probably it is kind of getting use to, or maybe the player really requires 200 hours of burning in before really judging it. Whatever it is, and whether burning in does exist, the player will be burning hot with the rest of my babies day by day till it reaches 200 hrs. :D I realize that the enhanced bass and the extra brightness is more obvious with poorer recordings but the player behaves real well with high resolution audiophile recordings. So far, I'm really pleased with its high resolution and sonically excellent performance. I think it is worth for what I've paid for :)
