Thanks man! I appreciate your feedback. but can you elaborate the sq of the synergy of hd600 and dx50 without an amp?

Giving the HD600s a good level e.g high gain (as others have agreed) and just over half volume level e.g 75db loudspeaker listening level and depending on music mastering loudness results in a full and quite satisfying listen. On normal level as well as very low levels/quiet critical listening it becomes a little clearer that the Hd600s might not be reaching their full potential.

The overall fequency reproduction seems well balanced with a good lower freqeuncies although it feels a touch slow overall and in bottom end tightness. Being very critical the upper mids can also be a touch hard as noted from listening to various recordings from Beck 'Everybodys gotta learn sometimes all the way to Prokofiev 'Peter and the Wolf'.

The soundstage is very good with the right recording (recordings that exibit good soundstage in the first place). Depth and separation is decent although on busy recordings separation becomes harder to discern and muddled up.

On the whole the DX-50 does a reasonably a good job of drving the HD600 on hi-gain. A headphone that most people agree needs a good matching as far as power/amp to get the very best out of them.

As I said before though, I never intended the DX-50 to match up to my HD600.

the DX50 has excellent sound quality much more than cowon c2 galaxy s3 and sansa clip + but i dont know what happened to me but I'm not sure that dx50 is better than old player iriver u10 i Bought in second hand which Plays only MP3 music.
Here's another one with this old player (iriver u10) which tried to compare it with DX50 (without amp) + IEM earphones?
(iriver u10, i mean its Defined in EQ)



 


I'm sure that dx50 would be better with a amp but it is not portable for me
(but to be honest the dx50 sounds alot of better in electronic music)

Amazon has the 512 version for sale, used, for under 20 bucks, and new for under 90 bucks.  
 
But why would anyone want to play MP3 or WMA files these days?  And half a gig is pretty small storage (though I guess if you are listening to MP3 file size is already pretty small).  
 
My DX50 sounds incredibly good (much better than the music players in my iPhone 4 and 5S, and as good as my Colorfly C3), plays hi-res files as well as FLAC and WAV, and will hold vast amounts of files (I have a 64gb card and I still have space on it, even with a whole lot of FLACs on it).   I listen to older rock and folk, and the player and amp handle these types of music cleanly and clearly.  
 
I use it exclusively to walk with, and even with a C5 amp attached I have no trouble carrying it.  With nice iems (Dunu1000s or UE TF10s) I get a great sound, portability, most of my music library (everything I want to listen to as I walk), and a good UI.  The build is good, and it seems to be a device that will last for a long time.  And for $239 its price point is way below the prices of the bigger boys like AK100/120/240.

Guys iam afraid about the ho hole widening up, i always put the dx50 in my pocket beside other stuff, so i dont like to keep it attached to my iem, because iam afraid the cable would tear out, so i listen then remove the iem and put it in the pouch, but removing and putting it in the ho lots of times is not practical, although it is still going good but i always feel its getting loose and the ho is bigger now, and since i read that this could happen, iam trying to find a way to keep the iem inserted and protect it also.

Any ideas ?

Also for anybody that opened the device before, wouldnt it be easy if it became loose, to open the device and solder a new connector ?

Or something similar.  I quit pocket-carrying when my iPhone/UE combo busted its cable jack wire connection.  It just seems dangerous to have a player with a wire in a pocket, where it can crimp or break.  I carried my player in a shirt pocket or a coat pocket after that, because I could wedge it upright to keep weight off of the plug/wire.  But in summer, wearing a T shirt, that wasn't possible.  So I moved to a carrying pouch attached to my belt.  Go to Amazon or eBay, there are lots of different pouches (belt pouches) listed, and in different sizes.

Do an ebay search for ''3.5mm Female to 3.5mm Male Right Angle Gold Headphone Adapter''. You could attach something like this to DX-50 and leave it attached. You are then wearing out this and not the DX-50 Headphone socket.
 
I leave my ER-4p to ER-4s adapter attached unless I am using line out.
 
Also, I imagine that replacing the DX-50 headphone socket at a point in the future should not be too much trouble. (if you are handy with a soldering iron and have steady hands)

I think i will go with the right angle short extension, that would certainly do it, i thought about this but in a straight cable shape at which i was afraid in my pocket it would affect the socket too, but right angle seems perfect !!

Ah I see... I tested the DX50 just now and I feel that the touchscreen implementation was a bit iffy; it would be much better if the screen is longer. SQ is slightly better than the X3 admittedly, but then again, something tells me that my headphones are bottlenecking the SQ (and therefore, even if I move up the ladder to DX90/X5/AKs, the SQ will be the same)

Scroll diagonally across the screen, not straight down. Far more reliable a way of using it I've found out as you obviously get more scrolling distance. What headphones do you have?

Oh I see... Another issue I have with the screen is that whenever I scroll slowly to pick what I exactly want (as opposed to scroll quickly across the alphabet and Japanese characters, which I have no issue with), I sometimes will accidentally select a song that I do not want. Is this a common issue or that my thumb is a little fat?
 
I am using a pair of Beyerdynamic Custom ONE Pro, which I think are somewhere between entry-level and mid-range.

Yea, that's another issue which my dad used to get annoyed about (he now has the DX90) and I've experienced before adapting my habits. I think it's more to do with the sensitivity of the touch screen than the size of your thumb though. Just use strong and decisive gestures to avoid this and don't lightly brush the screen if you want to scroll. It's a quirk of the DX50 which is a shame as its the only complaint I have about them apart from the loose HO and LO. It's basically a toss-up between the DX50 and X3 if you want to stay at this price range but if I were you I would chose the DX50 due to it's far more intuitive and superior interface - seriously FiiO, what's with that stupid button placement - and the much better (imo) DAC implementation. YMMV though, I won't blame you if you prefer the X3.

When I tried them, I got the impression that they're a fairly efficient pair of headphones which don't scale up all that well. The DX50 internal amp however is just average and bottlenecks the wonderful DAC implementation so it will definitely sound a hell of a lot better with a portable amp as I've personally experienced twice so far (Apex Glacier and 627 MICRO).

100 bucks? To my knowledge, the DX50 is $239 while the X3 is $200. It shouldn't be such a big difference. 
 
What I meant by that was the COP doesn't need much power to be loud (as in it doesn't really need a good amp) and it doesn't sound significantly better with amp upgrades.

I was referring to local currency and prices (SGD). And I guess that's what you get with efficient headphones: Easy to drive but in return cannot show much improvements with "better" amps?
 
EDIT: Current price difference is around 60ish
