I think it depends on how you use the thing.

I (and many others) have a folder tree structure to our music. You just bung it on the card (flacs, mp3s, other files, long file names with strange characters), it does a scan, you play the music by choosing the folder/file and bingo, it is faultless.

If you slap a trillion files in one folder and then hope that the pea brained machine can unscramble the mess using tags, you might not have so much luck.

Batch Lucky 7 is enroute to Tokyo !

I checked out the new Sony flagship here a few weeks ago.  I was extremely whelmed.  750 bucks ?  Even the guy in the Sony uniform was blah about it.  He said they just tried to build an AK100....  He also claimed it only outputs high res to the Sony amp; told me straight out if I want to use other makers` amps I should go with AK.  (Though I assume there will be workarounds.)

I was so disappointed I threw my doll on the floor.

That sony uniform sounds like he doesn't  know anything as usual. The zx1 is significantly different from the ak100 and other daps. It doesn't use a DAC, or a traditional amp section with op amps, as it uses the s-master digital chip for both audio processing and amplification. And the zx1 should also support dsd stand alone...

I'm now running DX50 through it's paces. It shipped with FW 1.2.2. I copied 3 24-bit albums into the internal storage. That's all it can hold. I have not inserted a micro SDXC yet. Not going to comment on SQ yet. Want to give this sucker some time on the burner.

So far so good, the UI is simple and intuitive enough. I run through the menu quickly and found out if  gapless is set to "close" it skips a few millisecond of the beginning of every track. So I set it to 5 seconds for now which is totally fine.

The amp appears to be more than capable. I'm currently listening with my H-200 at lo gain and I set the volume at level 215 and is loud enough. If I turn it up any further it will be very uncomfortable loud.

EDIT: It appears the music info page is incorrectly reporting the bit rate of the currently playing song.

I don't know anything about the Sony but the AKs do not have line outs so the claim that they are ideal for use with other amps, i.e. amping the amp output, is one that I would disagree with.

Now the RWAKs with the drop-in WM8741 to a true line out is a different story...   :)

  I lol'ed

IMHO everyone should have their say, in a civilized manner. Example:

Not cool: "The DX50 is useless!!"

Cool: "The DX50 is useless to me because..."

"The fact is the DX50 has bugs when it was released and still has some now, if you want to justify your purchase be my guest!! ..The bugs are well documented on here there is no point in me listing them ...i see dolls are being thrown already as i thought LOL..

Sorensim was not throwing dolls. His post was completely reasonable - much more reasonable than yours.

Loaded the new firmware and same thing still n. It is a shame as it sounds good when it works right but since day one it has not worked right for very long.t lacking the songs through and there is a hiss now evident. if they don't fix  this this will be  a bust product for them. We are doing a review on this product at audio360.org an I been patient waiting for this to work right. My other review partners is also having the same type of issues.  Ibass needs to step up and fix the issues with this player? I check the now playing directory and its showing another album that I first kurt on this morning and that worked correctly but the new ones are back to stopping g after the first track and it does not show in the now playing directory. Man this is frustrating as hell because sit sounds good when it works right but it does not work right for very long. Thats the way this one has been from the first day. ZToo bad because its not working properly and whi knows if it ever will.

I have been sitting on the fence for quite some time, listening to people either falling in love with their DX50 or going insane about the quirks and bugs that the DX50 is "still" struggling with and going full crazy with their posts here.
And, it's really amusing!!

My 3rd batch DX50, for one, has not faced any major issues.
I do agree, that in the beginning I was very frustrated with the special characters in tags and stuff, etc...But, I cleaned up all my tags patiently, and the DX50 then worked flawlessly.
It's the sound quality that has been keeping me from replacing it or selling it off. Not to forget, the intuitive touch screen interface and more than enough connectivity and storage options.

As for using the DX50 while carrying it in the pocket: I have twice gone running with my DX50 and TF10s, and nothing seems to bother it while playing music. I also tried carrying it in my shorts' pocket- no issue whatsoever. But then, my unit might not have been subjected to exactly those conditions, that others are talking about...

I can easily say that I love my DX50 and am pretty happy that I ordered one. For $240, it cannot get any better IMO - awesome SQ, excellent UI, great ergonomics.
But, that being said, I'm eagerly anticipating the Fiio X5, which just might beat the DX50 in all aspects...!! I had a chance to try my friend's X3 for a day or two, and I must say that it was pretty stable. Athough the SQ was nowhere near DX50, hence, did not order one.

Lastly, I want to say that : it really is infuriating that the DX50 is still marred with a lot of bugs after several updates, that keep popping up from time to time. If that is not enough, an update does not necessarily mean that all that was seemingly bug-free will remain so...  For instance, I had no issues with .cue and ,m3u files in the folders in V1.1.6. But, the day that I updated to V1.2.2, issues started cropping up with DX50 playing snippets of songs before skipping on to the next track.

Anyway, I have high hopes for the DX50, since it's quite nearly there "For Me", where I could stop worrying about my DAP and start enjoying music without any kind of issues bothering me.

This is what I've been thinking, I'm not going to use it for very heavy listening like 8 hrs a day. Honestly I'll prob only use it for like 3 hrs a day if that, I just wanted a new toy

Been reading and flipping though this forum to catch up with what I have been missing and... it got me thinking, "Does the 'bug' only existent on certain batches or due to poor QC?"

Because I have yet to experience any of such reported cases. *Mine was the 2nd batch of DX50*

And as for the hissing... does hissing refer to "ground noise" or faint "white noise" or totally something else that I have yet to hear it myself?
