Reading through this thread I'm starting to wonder if quality control is an issue with the contracted factory iBasso contracted to build the DX50. Thus far, I've read impressions from people that seem to be all over the map. Some people are having absolutely no problems while others can't seem to use the player an hour without something going wrong. I expected bugs but never so many different early findings that are all over the place.

Maybe delete the file with the ' in it, rename the file on your computer, then upload that file on the dx50 and check it.

will try it now

I've had to do that with a couple of tracks, not deleted but changed the name from I'll be your alibi to Be your. Even then it won't play in order, should be track 8 but is now showing at end of album. Although in directory mode it is in order, all very bizarre.

Just got my DX50 few hours ago, first the construction is A1, feels solid and really looks well made, the packing box is quite attractive, I was going to throw the DX50 and keep the box :D

I won't be able to say much as I would like to because I need way more time to appreciate it but to start;

The word sexy comes to mind as to how it looks, I also like the heft. Now. I know some people feel that the iMod is not comparable to this dap but as promised I compared both and I am sad (and I kind of expected that) to say that my iMod is better than the DX50, so as such iMod > DX50.  Now, I figured that this was unfair because the iMod requires an amp, so I figure let's use the same amp and compare again, well, sorry still holds. Ok now that I have that out of the way, I am going back to listen to it longer, put more mileage and also do additional comparisons and tests (maybe the burn-in might change my mind as to the above comparison - doubt though). I am also going to experiment with the interface and the USB access plus the Coax features now that I have a D12 available for that.

Conclusion though, it is a nice dap, no doubt I truly think iBasso got a winner in the reasonable category.

Tourlou! :)

what are the aspects that are better for the imods?

Try to use DriveSort :)

Some explanation taken from Anerty's Lair,
'The majority of recent operating systems sort the files before showing them to the user, either by name, by size or by whatever the user choose. However, it is not always the case in embedded OSes on small portable devices like MP3 players. On these platforms, the lack of resources (CPU, memory) can lead the developper to make it display or play the files in the order in which they are on the disk.
This order depends mostly of the order in which they were added to the disk.''

You need to give the dx50 time to burn in for a decent comparison.

Mine landed this morning.  Been feeding up some tunes through out the day.  So far, a really good sound but I prefer the clarity and nicer imaging of F807 walkman + JH13pro playing on lossless + non-hirez files.  I'm having problems with the DX50 not displaying all albums unless browse via a file browser in a directory mode.  I'm impressed with the build quality so far given the pricetag.  The DX-50 will be a great high-quality digital transport for me.

I don't see a search option.....

Thank you!
And that sucks.

These are most definitely software issues which doesn't really have anything to do with build except on the driver end. I haven't really read anything here that would make a reasonable person assume that there are parts crapping out, except maybe some of the random restarts. Just less than optimal design in regard to catching all the probable configurations of software and data interactions, eg mac file system quirks and tagging issues.

This is likely why they can come in at this price. A lot of R&D overhead would likely come in the form of UI design implementation and software efficiency and stability.

Got mine in today.  Couple things.

  1. How do you "play all"?  Everytime i go into All Music, and select one, it just plays that one song.
  2. I played with it for about 15 mins total so far after charging it up and loading in all flac... already froze once and the screen went all crazy.  Had to battery pull.
  3. With my 4.Ai, theres a noticeable amount of hiss on all gain levels... very disappointing.
  4. Build quality is good.  I liked the AK build quality better but that is to be expected at 3 times the price.

If the "play all" issue has been addressed previously, I do apologize.  Thank you.

I absolutely do not believe in burn in for solid state products and have yet to experience it in any way shape or form.

So far the sound quality of my DX50 is very good.  A detailed, well defined presentation.

The basic player design is nice too with sensible, appealing button placement.

The first problem for me is the poor build quality evidenced by the uneven button pressure.  It concerns me that they will fail in the future.

The DAC section is simply inferior, but if you add a $300 amp, you'll get 90% or maybe even 95% of the DX100.

As alternative is it possible to bypass the internal DAC of DX50 with digital out?

Use DX50 solely as transport and then pair with iBasso PB2 (amp) + DB2 (Dual WM8740 DAC).

I know Fiio X3 allows to bypass its internal DAC by coaxial digital out.
