The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

I get that on sometimes. Played a playlist of an album I'm not familiar with start it, it turns out it stops after the second song because that was actually the last track

I haven't had that. Is it just one folder?  If so, probably a corruption of something in that folder.  Check the folder or redo the folder and make fresh files.  If it's more global, and the same behavior is in several folders, than I would do a reinstall of the firmware.  You already did a reset and pulled the card, so if it happens again, put a new firmware in.  Might have been just a hiccup and you fixed it.  If not, new firmware should.  If it doesn't could it be the card?  Try another?

Mine has had nothing but problems for months, I finally rock boxed it and all is great! No freezes at all everything works better than it ever has and best of all it sounds better more transparent which is what I like more. Just my .02!

Thanks Guys.

I did a factory reset and reinserted the card. it was rather late last night when  I did this so I haven't been able to test it completely. I did however notice after the  factory reset an album played through about half way without any issue.

(I had always made sure the shuffle / play order was correct and there were no playlists created).

It was having issue with all albums. After a few listening sessions I'll make sure I report back and confirm it's working properly.

I rather like using a leather case intended for a smart phone, attached to my belt.  Get the right kind and it fits the dx50 perfectly, allows me to use it without ever putting it in my pocket.  Sits comfortably on my belt.

But I have muffin top so I don't like anything attached to my belt, that's why I use pants pockets. I'll either fanny pack it or that ammo bag olddude suggested.

So after less than a week I have settled with ER-4p (without 4s adpater!) and mid gain. Also, no complaints with the soundstage as to me it is correct. If a piece of music is mixed/mastered wider or has stereo enhancement at points in the mix, or extreme panning this is reproduced accurately.

I can live with the small amount of hiss.

Will probably pick up the C&C BH2 just to try it out. Looking to get something a little more esoteric for the HD600. The DX-90 battery life I could not live with and that is why I went with DX-50.

A question about media scanning. In the manual it states that the first scanning takes the longest and subsequent scans are shorter. After copying over new files and saying yes to the re scan screen it still takes a fair bit of time to update the database (even if only a couple of files were added). This suprised me somewhat. Any thoughts?

Is there any way to add playlists to the player other than use the built in playlist function?

How does the dx50 synergize with the hd600 in terms of sq?

My HD600 is usually used with a RME FIreface on hi gain. I did not buy the DX-50 to use standalone with the HD600 but for IEM and line out.

On hi gain with DX-50 and HD600 (no EQ) everything is there across the spectrum, all present and correct and there is no problem at all with actual volume output. There is also no issue of background hiss/noise. Different dedicated amps could do many things to the overall sound, but the DX-50 + HD600 does at least work , a high quality dedicated amp will obviously improve things though (still undecided on my next purchase). My views and listening experiences may well differ from yours so I would hesitate to recommend the combo. The only way is to try it for your self. Head-fi it seems is a dangerous place! so many ears, so many variables (not to mention thousands upon thousands of different music recordings/preferences all recorded/mixed/mastered at different places)

Regarding above post I am back to ER4s on mid gain with some EQ adjustment to help out a little with the bottom end definition. (also no noise/hiss issues)

Finally I see you already had feedback from Fiio X3 user who said they did not like the DX-50, I am not sure if this was with HD600 or not.

Thought I'd plug in HD600s into my DX50 - on low gain it can drive them ok at about 70% of volume
With the mid gain volume needs to be about 65%

Sound is very good, listening to 24/192 of Cannonball Adderley - Something Else - pretty impressive stuff.

Then I plug my Graham Slee Voyager back in and the bass really gets much much better.

Hi people was hoping you guys can gimme some advice if I should pick up the dx50 or dx90. I'm currently using a pair of reshelled tf10 with 4drivers, while my jh13 will probably arrive next month. Around 2/3 of my songs are 320kbps mp3 with the remaining 1/3 in FLAC format.

With my music library having majority of 320, would choosing dx90 make a significant difference over dx50?

Having trouble deciding mainly coz I'll not be using an amp, and people have been saying that dx90 doesn't rly require an amp while dx50 would perform better amped, and on the other hand the dx90's battery life is kinda low compared to the 50.

Having a rly tough time deciding.. :/

Thanks man! I appreciate your feedback. :) but can you elaborate the sq of the synergy of hd600 and dx50 without an amp?

I primarily use more portable gear with the DX50 but it's terrific with my HD600s. Definitely improves further with my Headstage Arrow credit card-like amp, but the DX can definitely drive HD600 with pretty good results.
