LCD-2 ver.1 on O2 which drives them easily. Even Heaven VI (on low gain 1x set on O2 - better bass, no hiss).

I have the momentum over ears aswell, do you recommend having an amp in your setup when you use Momentum + dx50?

I used both with and without. It's really up to you, with 1.2.8 it sounds great with both. If you haven't bought an amp, you may want to try without one first, big advantage is the money savings.

Bought a couple of dsd albums from Opus3 and have tried them and while they are impressive enough I don't think they sound any better in dsd than they do transcoded to flag. Perhaps because the dac chip don't handle dsd natively ?

I got a question for all of you out there with the FW 1.2.8.

Did you have this problem: A song just finished, another started and the volume, all out of the blue, increased at a good pace to what seems to be max but when looking at the volume level indicator, it is no where close to max.
Fortunately I had my HD600 on so the volume got loud but not to the point of going deaf, I took them out nonetheless. I am not too happy about that. :mad:  

Unfortunately I can't reproduce it all the time, it seems random. Not sure what to do at this point, maybe going back to 1.2.7 and definitively leave a message to iBasso.

edit: kept 1.2.8 and going through the LO/amp route again.

This has happened to me on every firmware I have tried! Until ibasso isolates the problem it will continue to appear.

Catching up on 120+ new posts in this thread is a nice way to spend a saturday evening while listening to the DX50 

 
1) I still amp on 1.2.8 - Ibasso PB2 balanced into (C)IEMs. Loving it. If the DX90 is going to sound better than the DX50 does on 1.2.8, it's going to be one hell of a DAP!
 
2) Sorry, I don't have any firmware older than 1.1.5 in my stash. Try skimming the first pages of the thread, some of the people talking about upgrading to 1.1.0 might still have that one lying around.
 
3) Haven't bothered with DSD. I kinda like the idea of DSD, but the fact that the WM8740 can't play it without converting it to PCM kinda ruins the point of having support for it in the first place. A bit like Google Play Music supporting flac - but noting that any FLAC you upload will be converted to 320kbps Mp3.

If the songs are from different albums it could be the gain level of the song that is the problem. Albums can be recorded at very different levels. I only play entire albums so not a problem but I frequently have to change volume between albums, sometimes by quite a lot

We've probably already 'beaten this dead horse' before, but what the hell....
Downsides to playing DSD (.iso) files on any DAP:  
 
1.) They take-up incredible amounts of memory = 3 to 5 times larger then the 24/96 or 24/44 versions made from the .iso's.
2.) A 'well made' DSD usually sounds equally 'well made' when converted to 24/96 or 24/44....and "I betchu can't tell the difference

3.) Playing DSD (.iso's) on your DAP requires the processor to convert it to PCM or whatever before it's played anyway which uses up scarce battery power very fast.

I convert all my DSD iso's to 24/96 or 24/44 Flacs before I load them on my DAP's. That way you gain all the benefits of the DSD quality without ANY of the downsides.

Interesting because this only happens to me when I put the player in shuffle mode. But the increase in volume could make you deaf. So this could be potentially a very serious problem.

If it is indeed the gain difference between different recordings that is the problem a good implementation of replaygain by iBasso could solve it but they have said that they don't intened to implement replaygain. I have for years been using aacgain (album gain) on my huge iTunes aac library

Isn't the nature of Li-ion batteries? I have a bunch of them so bring on the music!

Yeah, possibly, but it is dying at a slightly faster rate! Like, I used to charge my DX50 once a week, now it's like twice a week...Unless..I'm actually using it more lol
 
I might grab a Samsung battery as some of you say good things about it, but has anyone tried the long-life Mugen Power batteries?
