  This
Seriously though, the DX100 offers more separation, a significantly bigger soundstage and more detail. The sound is simply cleaner, but not as much as the price may suggest.

I'm very interested in DX50 which is 80% SQ of DX100 and 30% price of DX100.

If I were use a good external amp, do you think DX50 has potentially to improve its sound stage and separation which is on par like in DX100?

I just got an email from MP4Audio that they will receive their units today or tomorrow and will send them out ASAP.
Good news :)

The DAC section is simply inferior, but if you add a $300 amp, you'll get 90% or maybe even 95% of the DX100.

Would a JDS C5 amp pair well with the DX50?

I'm also curious about this combo.

If no one has a C5, I'll give you my impressions on the two when I receive my DX50.

Well, I for one do not feel AK100 worths 3 times more than DX50...

Cosmic I understand where you come from but you need to give AK/iriver credit also.

For me DAP are mainly "graded" in three main aspects (incusive of specs and actual performance) to see how worthy they are:
1. Sound
2. Design/form factor/finish/aesthetics
3. UI/firmware/operability/peripheral features

AK, with their own issues, are still head and shoulder ahead of the game in UI/firmware amongst "audiophile" DAPs and the price we paid is inclusive of that. (btw need to give great thx to our russian fds who hacked the ak100 with ak120 firmware/features to force iriver to un-cripple AK100, and the russians comrade is moving onto x3/dx50!)

IBasso would probably also charge at 400-500 level had the dx50 been more completed/finished like the current ak100. For me it is still a good deal as these nuisances aren't affecting 90% of my usage, and I'm only paying 239, plus fixes are coming sooner or later.

Just my take on it....

Hey fellas (the ones who own the DX50), if you guys have a spare minute or so, could someone please show me the bottom of the DX50?:) and with a ruler, show how long it is from the edge of the DX50 to the Line-Out jack.

Cheers!

Grats on your 1000th post :)

Hahaha, thanks! Never thought anyone would notice!

Oh, and my 2 cents for the questions in your signature: I'll say DX50 (by the looks of things, it is the preferred DAP over the X3), and V-Moda M80 for the headphones:) Only because I owned the M80's, and they were a very nice pair of headphones with liquid-like mids, a very nice overall bass response, and sparkly highs. Not to mention a killer build quality.

Back on track now to the DX50!

So I can confirm that the DX50 firmware is built on top of Android !

What I've found so far:

- If you turn it off and the press the power button and the volume up button for ten seconds it will go in recovery mode. (and the bootloader seems to be unlocked)
- then if you plug it to your pc it is recognized by ADB (Android Bridge Debugger from Android SDK) and you can run adb shell to access it.
- It's running a modified version of Android 4.1.1
- it's already rooted (busybox is present)
- The "player" seems to be called mango

I'll try to dump the complete Rom to see if something is feasible
