What you think about Head-Fi's new look?

Right now, that's my LEAST favorite new feature. those things are always popping up and obscuring what I really want to see.

Slowing getting used to everything else.......

Really? I don't find it obscures anything if the cursor is over a blank area. I like it because it saves the time of opening the thread and having to leave the thread. It's the lag time of entering and leaving I don't miss. This is for those threads where the title is not too clear about the contents. Each to their own.

I really appreciate the new features. I'm glad Jude took the time to upgrade the software.

I liked the simple elegance of the old layout. To me, it reflected the quiet, ruminative state of a listening audiophile. It had the look of a mature forum that was to be respected. All this color and shading reminds me instead of a hyperkinetic iPodLounge or Nomadness in blue.

So, I wish you all possible speed Jude while you recreate the old theme!

Yikes, I go away for the weekend and look what happens!

I agree w/ whomever said this new look reminds them of Windows XP. Not a good thing, IMO, as I have Windows XP set to the classic style of 2K. Too much wasted space and general flashiness. The actual color scheme is tolerable, though I liked the old scheme better. Oh yeah, and I also agree w/ whomever said they didn't like the text of the first post popping up when you put your cursor over the thread. Again, too distracting.

Since there are 11 pages already, I'm just skipping ahead after having read only the first page. First thing I'd like to say is: Wow. I'm prety sure that in the time it took for this thread to reach 11 pages, there have been changes made to the style and functions, so I won't totally fault those who only complained in the beginning, because I probably missed all the hub bub...What I'm basically saying is that I love the new look.

It's very fresh, and smooth. The blue colour scheme is nice as well, though I prefer the original. (perhaps just used to it) Somehow it had a sense of elegance to it, which came out of its simplicity. But I know you guys are working on that.

Sorry if this is redundant, but a few things that I miss already are:

1) Search function

2) When you hit foward or back in your browser, the spot you were previously in has been lost/reset, and you have to scroll from the top of the page again. Very frustrating. The old board kept your place according to which thread you entered.

3) The titles of each section used to be a clickable link, available at the top of each page you were on, whereas now, you have to click the main Head-Fi banner to get to the main page to click on the subject you wanted to go into. Ex:

Headphones > Portable Audio > Buy/Sell > Sources > Etc.

Those were all links at the top that you could use to transport to another forum section. I hope this will be brought back. There are a few other really minor things, but I'm sure they'll straighten themselves out, so no sense in complaining.

Many thanks to you guys who have worked so hard on getting this together. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

S.S.

EDIT: OH...I knew there was something I really wanted to say! PLEASE, put the author column back in on the menu pages ! Very often, (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) I'll be looking for a particular post, and knowing who the author of the thread was, really helps in narrowing down the search at times. Especially when you know that the thread is less than a day old, but has fallen behind and using the (now non existant) search function is overkill. PLEASE bring that back !!

You may want to get your eyes checked.

Um, my eyes are just fine thank you. (well in reality they're really not ...I see way too many floaters and silver streaks but...) You're either not understanding what I mean, or you're just suffering from senility and need to get your head checked !

What I'm referring to is, look on top while in a thread. You see where "User CP; FAQ; Member List; Calender; Quick links and Log out is located ? Well from what I remember, that's where those options used to be, rather than having to back track to the main page to select a category, you could just do it from there. Or something like that. All I know is that I don't remember having to go back to the main page.

Can someone confirm this for me ? Or am I just making things up like Russel Crows character did in 'A Beautiful Mind" ? That would suck. Especially since he was a freekin' genius and I'm just ....not.

Thats odd. Thats not the case for me.

Look right above the bar where it says User Cp, FAQ, etc. and to the left of where it says "Welcome "username" and shows if you have new messages. Its in small blue font.

I hope we are talking about the same thing. Maybe I read your posts wrong. I hope I helped.

Best Regards,
Dan

I thought that I was the only one that was having problems with the message summary popping up during a mouse hover. I find it _incredibly_ annoying because that yellow box, once activated, pops up for every thread that the mouse cursor inadvertently touches. The only way to get rid of it is to move the cursor completely off of the browser page.

I'm the type of person that embrases change. I like to let things ride their course, and then make judgement. I mean without change, life would be extremely boring, right? After a few days now, the new Head-Fi is looking really nice! Everything is more "clean cut" to me. However, the large user name and avatar take up too much space and I can only assume this will be fixed in due time. Other than that, everything is looking good! I especially like the new look of all (most) of the icons. The notepad and feather is a nice new look for the "quote" and "post reply" icons.

To me, Head-Fi was actually becoming less and less pleasing to the eye. I also think things will only get and look better as Jude and others revise the new site over the next few weeks. Great job Jude! And thanx for bringing a new flavor. I infinitely appreciate all you do for us and this community
