Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Anyone have a clue what would cause a left/right imbalance on these? It's driving me absolutely insane. It's not the cable, the filters, or the nozzles. With no nozzles in them at all I hear it clear as day.

I need to know if I need to return these or if there's something I can do to fix them. Seriously guys, I'm almost sick to my damn stomach here. I drop $1000 on headphones and $200 on custom molds, the molds don't fit and now the headphones are messed up. This is physically painful.

I feel your pain and frustration. Like others have suggested and commented. The upside to this (if there is any), is that you are having a problem with a SHURE product. CS is first rate and they will deal with your problem in a fast and efficient manner.

Send them back. Call them and see if they will eat the shipping (to them). I might not mention modding the filters - not that that is  in any way effecting them but...no need to mention it

I feel your pain I would pop you out my 5s to use in the interim but I suspect by the time you get them your ne 8s will be enroute to you.

As to the SCS frustrating as it is. Once your new molds go in (audiologist issues?) Sensaphonics will expedite the new ones and getting them back.

Soon everything will be back on track and you will be back in the virtuous circle of sweet sweet music and comfort and seal.

I really do sympathize at your run of bad luck. Should I win tonight's upcoming $50 mil lottery (not one to buy tickets but its been a week....) We shall fly down to Chicago (on me) and get everything done there. AND grab some great food. - Unless you are a Vegan..Chicago is not a city for vegans.... Or Apes!

I would definitely call SHURE first so they know your 8s are coming in and to see if they can expedite the turnaround (and eat the shipping)

I feel your pain, been without my Ref1 and G2 for over 3 weeks... it was pretty painful until Monday when I received my 8's. Unfortunately , life moves so damn quick, 3 weeks is a blink of your eye. Hang in there bro!!

On a side note, I should have my Ref 1 today so hopefully tomorrow I can do some head to head comparisons. I think the 8s are going to fair very well. Right now, they are way ahead of my Heir 8.0... by far. Also received my Rwak120b yesterday, which sounds pretty sweet with the 8s, horrid with my Heir.

Some workout music for your SE846 and yourself (if you like this type of music):

Lil Jon - Bend Ova (Ft. Tyga):

And here is one that has some dancing and has Arshad's "Bumper" as a mashup as well:

Enjoy, and if not, no worries!

Before I leave to take a look at venues, I'll leave you all with this -- I think it sounds lovely (your mileage will vary regarding which source you use, but even using my PC as a source it sounds divine):

Good news, I'll have my Chord Hugo next week for my Shure SE846. Hopefully the Chord Hugo will work nicely too with the HD800.

Congrats! You are one lucky/blessed person! The Hugo will make anything sound better. Probably will make those $1 earphones sound better as well!

Loved the Hugo with the 846 at the Chicago meet.

Glad you got to try it out. Which output did you use? I just used the Silver Dragon USB to Apple CCK straight up to my iPhone 5. Such a creamy smooth, yet supremely detailed sound. *Just about euphoric*...

Don't recall what output I used. Not sure I was even aware there were multiple output options...

Yes, there are multiple output options, as well as rated varying degrees of versatility, sound quality, etc. on Hugo's interconnections website.

Going the CCK route was the best option for me, but if I owned the Hugo I would want to try all of the interconnects that I could and find out if I could tell a difference sonically...if not, then I'll just stick with the CCK connection.

Anybody know if it's possible to audition these in the nyc area?

Hi mrip541,

You can demo the SE846 and more IEMs/headphones and choose an IEM/headphone that you may like even more than the SE846 (good luck with that) at an Airport Inmotion store in your NYC area (LaGuardia and JFK): http://www.inmotionstores.com/locations.html. Good luck!

The folks at Airport Inmotion in JFK let me listen to their 846 for an hour. They were really nice--and also interested in the K10s I was comparing them to.

Can you recollect which TOTL IEMs were at that location?

I want to go to the John Wayne Airport location soon to check out some more IEMs...just cuz.
