Alrighty yall, the sequel . Remember my defective ES FC300? Well I exchanged them for a not do defective one. Needless to say, they're not defective anymore.

All I can is they're even better than before.

Within a week or so, I'm planning on the yet to be released Monster DNA Pro Over-Ears. I was lucky enough to be part of a focus group for these headphones. I do like them quite a bit. They offer a more traditional neutral presentation from many of the other headphones. 
 
I'm also hoping on adding the new NAD headphones and BeoPlay H6s before too long.

Im new to the forum and do not know much about the subtle niuances between these high end headphones. I was researching a quality pair of phones to buy recently after getting a new job where i now have an hour and 40 minute train ride every morning and afternoon. I wantef i decent set to help my zone out and tune out outside distractions. I was drawn to the momentums based on all the good reviews but i couldnt find them in any store to try personally. I need to test these sort of things to be comfortable buying. Long story shorrt i bought a pair of beats studios. Just for the sake, besides the bose were the easiest to find. Im happy with the buy evn tho the bose felt more comfortable and noise canceling wasnt as hissy. I guess im just a sucker for marketing

The Momentums are a great choice. I did eventually sell them as I found their bass bled a bit too much into the mids for my liking and the subdued treble affected the upper mids to essentially put Miles Davis and Chris Botti behind the drummer in the sound stage. But I still hold them in very high regard. 
 
If you're in Canada, Future Shop has them available for demo. The Apple Store has them available for demo too. The Bose QC15s are fantastic NC headphones and only recently surpassed by the new in-ear Bose QC20i. The QC20i's sound better and their noise cancelling is truly a technological accomplishment.

Return the Beats and get something better. You only think that you are happy with what you wasted your money on, in the middle of Sahara a cup of urine is a wonderful drink.

Momentums sound pretty good but they may be uncomfortable for some people because they're only half over-ear and half on-ear (they go "over" the back of your ears but sit "on" the front of your ears). You might want to try them out at a store before you buy.
 
Bose is actually very good for train rides if you get the noise cancelling models. The new QC20i sounds excellent (aside from lack of air >10khz) and is very comfortable, especially if you're someone who doesn't like the feeling of sticking an IEM deep into your ears. And of course the over-ear QC15 has been the gold standard for ANC since it was released.
 
For non-ANC the best-sounding portable headphone IMO is still the P7, if you can afford it.

Yeah, most IEMs don't extend more than 10kHz...they do seem to extend as well as the SE535s though.

Really? That's surprising, consider it was their flagship until the SE846. I've never heard a Shure IEM properly though... those damned tips never fit my ears because of their pointed shape. Shure's full-sized headphones have pretty good treble extension.

Surprisingly the SE846s roll off a bit quicker than even the SE535s:

In other news, I was indeed able to procure a brand new pair of Bang & Olufsen H6 headphones for a killer deal today. So far I'm very impressed. They seem very balanced. Deep and taught bass (never overblown), ever present mids and extended treble (though not "bright"). Comfort is A+, as is the construction. I'll update them here in a few weeks (along with the yet to be released Monster DNA Over-Ear Pros). Both actually share a very similar sound signature...think "neutral".

Are the ear pads for the H6 removable?

Can't wait to read your report.  The H6 were really comfortable when i demoed them in the B&O store but coming from the m-100 and amperiors, they seemed bass light to me.  I guess that's the sound of neutral

The thing about the H6 I noticed was that it lacks dynamics. It's just very mild sounding throughout the entire frequency response without any punch anywhere. It was kind of a snooze fest for me, and I thought for a $400 headphone the resolution was quite average, on par with something like the Sony MDR-1R, which is only $200.

I believe the term is "sound leakage"? How much do the beats studios leak? Id like to listen to my music at a reasonable level without bothering the person sitting next to me

I would say that when amp'd (even out of my E11), they bring the bass for a neutral pair of headphones. No fat, bloat or overhang. Just quick, taught and deep bass.

In the Apple Store I kinda agree with you. At home, they are much better than the MDR-1Rs...the bass isn't rolled off and the presentation is far more neutral. Actually, of all the headphones here I'd rank them as the most "neutral" and the M200s in #2 (though they come off a bit too mid-centric for my tastes and didn't isolate worth much at all). The H6's air/space and soundstaging is head above shoulders better after one afternoon with them. These are gonna push the P7s...I can tell already.

The new 2013 Studios are a cut above with regards to leakage. The old Beats were pretty horrible at this (and pretty much everything else for that matter).  My wife doesn't seem to mind them...and she's a tough person to keep happy with regards to noise (thus my speaker hobby turned into headphone audio for the most part).
