Can anyone compare the beyer t51p to the vmoda xs. I have the xs and really like the sound, fit and portability. I was interested to know if the t51p was "better" or just different. I know it also depends on personal preference.

It's different. But I find the T51Ps have better defined bass and vocals to my ears as well as better treble. However I didn't like the sound of the XS and found the ear pads to be pretty small even for an on-ear. They also made my ears sweat/get hot when wearing them, something that doesn't have with the Beyers.

If you are happy with the XS there is no need to check out the T51Ps as they may not be better for you just very different.

Right now my go to closed cans are the HP50 and the T51p. If I want a closed can and am at home I will probably grab the HP50. If I am on the go more than likely I will grab the T51p. When I am not in the mood for either that is when I grab my open HE-400 or my IEM's (SM64). I guess this habit is safer than drugs but still kills my wallet.

@MacedonianHero  i had  just heard the b&o h6 at the apple store today. holy crap i loved them so much.

i only had 15 minutes on them before i was kicked off because one of the apple associated needed to help a customer with the apple classic the h6 was hooked to

i was able to hook onto my iphone, i had to turn it higher than normal, their rather inefficent i had them at 65% roughly compare to 40% on my vmoda xs

i was soo immersed in the music, it was insane the soundstage was so expansive, i really almost forgot i had headphones on

i actuallly find them a bit U shaped just a bit

with the very tight and seemingly emphasized subbass. it was soo fast as well.

i know i said slightly U shaped, making it sound like the mids would be pushed back. but no it was soo clear and natural, while never edgy with vocals. and vocals were able to breathe freely

the upper treble seem a bit emphasized making it sparkly amazing for more electronic and synth pop.

it didn't seem to have any drop outs or peaks and valleys throughout.

their soo comfortable as well, their really over ears (i wouldn't think anyone would find this to be anything else---> looking at you momentums!)

but sadly i shed a tear after asking a sales associate how much it costed... $439....... CDN... thats absurb. not that its not amazing.. but its soo much =( if it was 200$ i would snap one up right now!

Right now, these 2 are my "go to" portable headphones....really enjoy them out of my A200p/iPad Air!

They are great headphones! I don't find them U shaped though as that would imply that the bass is a bit boomy and these headphones don't have that to my ears. But it could the listening conditions at the Apple Store. They are fantastic headphones...glad you finally go to hear them!
The T51p's are really knocking me out.

I can't believe how much more I like them than the Senn Amperior's (for one example).

Agreed!

  Hi,
I tried T50P, T51P, H6, HP50, Momentum, P7, M500 and some others but at the end, for my ear and kind of music, the best ones were the Fidelio L2...so I've bought them on Amazon.

Great...I've always wanted to hear the Fidelio.

Aren't the Fidelio's open back or semi-open? If so then they don't really qualify as portable. If we start including open backs then this thread would become unwieldy

No, it won't be in this thread. MH mentioned it long ago :)

Depends on the isolation IMO.
Some semi-open headphones (anything vented) isolate better than some 'portable' headphones.
(for example modified Fostex T20RP MKII (still vented) isolates slightly better than Sennheiser Momentum... but obviously it's not a portable headphone)

So it's up to the headphone gods and ultimately MH to decide what belongs here

edit - dangit Billson, you get there before me - good to know though.

I've owned a few "semi-open" headphones and in the end, they're more like "semi-pregnant". Basically, there is open and there is closed....there is no in between IME.

Well, I'm thinning the herd down a bit and just an FYI that I've listed my B&O H6s in case anyone is interested. Please see my sig for a link.

Thanks!
