Review: ZMF Modified Fostex T50RP. Superb! - Page 54

Hey ZMF owners, I've added the Omni to our Upgrade Page, so now you can get your Classic or Master Model V1 or V2 upgraded to an Omni if you'd like.  I know many of you on this thread have supported me since the very beginning, so thank you!

Hey all - the I am re-introducing the original ZMF's as the "ZMF Classic,"  many changes were made utilizing the t50rp MK III and a ton of stuff I learned while making the Omni, Blackwood and Vibro.  I think it's a really good value!

Check out the Classic HERE.

As a side note, the balanced version gets rid of the orange cable.

Wow they look great! Im saving up to get a ZMF pair and I am looking forward to getting one in the near future! :D I just hope it will be somewhere near the quality of the HD600, not necessarily the same sound sig but of the same quality (I hope the ZMFs will be a bassier, something like that)

Any sonic differences from the mark ii versions? Or same tuning?

Here's the FAQ from my order page:

How is the new ZMF Classic different from the original ZMF Mods?

Since the ZMF's were first introduced in 2011, we have learned a lot about what makes a headphone sound good and introduced our full line of custom planar magnetic headphones.  This presented an opportunity to add this knowledge as we designed the ZMF Classic mod for the Fostex t50rp MK III.  It worked...the ZMF Classic is truly an instant. Classic.

Why is the single ended jack replaced?

By replacing the stock 1/8 jack on the left earcup with a gold plated jack, any channel imbalance from a cheap connector is eliminated.  Furthermore, you can now also use after-market cables with the ZMF Classic.

For the Master Model you had a V1 and V2 tuning where the V2 had more bass right?

Yes!  I decided to have just one tuning for the "Classic." Now with a full line of headphones representing what the ZMF sound is,  anyone familiar with our slightly bass boosted, musical and extended sound will enjoy the ZMF Classic to its full potential.

Can I get some custom paint jobs?

Unfortunately we no longer do custom paint on the Classic.  It helps immesely with our turnaround time.  If looking for something with a more personal touch, check out the ZMF x Vibro MK II.

-------------

To add to this - the tuning is overall a touch more neutral than the original ZMF, more sub-bass vs mid-bass boost, but with less treble peak.

I also added a graph of the ZMF Classic VS stock t50 on the order page.

Same, though my order's been pending for a week. Based on feedback, seems like Zach won't disappoint.

Hope you guys are enjoying the Classics!

I just finished setting upt he new space and have been training a new hire.  We finished some ZMF Classics as the first headphones completed in the new workshop.  Here's some snaps with the new black backdrop we got set up.  Really happy with the MK III based ZMF Classics, they are the best value int he ZMF line-up IMHO.

I have gotten some questions regarding pad choice, my personal preference is Lambskin with Protein being a close second.  The cowhide, while great for the Blackwood and Omni's seems to muddy up the Classic and Vibro a little too much for my taste.
