EDIT:Rewrite with better picture

Ok after visiting this site http://freett.com/Tfactory/Audio/AZ6829/InsideAZ.html

and hearing about how the az6808 should sound identical to the az6829 I decide to open my az6808 to see inside.

EDIT:New Suff Start Here

Here my picture comparaison between the AZ-6829 which has insane bid price on yahoo.jp and my lowly AZ-6808

All the picture of the AZ-6829 were taken from this site http://freett.com/Tfactory/Audio/AZ6829/InsideAZ.html

First the outside AZ-6829
Go here they have batter picture.

They use the same PCB.

Underneat main PCB AZ6829

As you can see the upper PCB in the az6829 has 3 caps beside the upper left red connector in the az6808 there only 2 caps

Same chip on the 2nd like of the SAA7341GP on the az6829 the number is K2A023 I believe on the az6808 is K2A028

From an altavista translation of the japanese site this is the analog part

Everything seem to match perfectly

Conclusion the AZ6808 must sound pretty damm similar to the famous az6829

/EDIT: Old Tread
How does it sound. The quick answer is it seem less detail than the dcp-150 but a bit more coherent than the dcp-100 but it less aggressive than the dcp-100 so making a bit it less fun well the dcp-150 is sometime less fun than the dcp-100. It's a warmer because the denon are very clear and bright with the ety 4S at least. But it has good attractive sound presentation with a good amount of detail. I like it better than my PowerCD.

So I guess I still concider the DCP-150 is the king of PCDP.

Duncan I tought you were supose to quit this pcdp business Can't resist the call Well I'm beyond broke so That does it for me. I guess the next thing I realy want to hear is AOS Picolo or PACE. Did anybody compare them to the vintage pcdp? But I need to find a job first. And I still don't have an amp.

lol @ the two of you...

Would it help my rehab causes if I were to sell of most of the players I have now first?

I really don't need any more... but, the urge is always there... it'll never go away, like being an ex smoker, you might be able to control the urges, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist

Hi, I have the Philips AZ 6808 and want to get it fixed, whats the best thing for me to do?

I got this Cd player when I was at college in about 1993! I still think it could hold its own?

Bumping an old post...

I have a Marantz PCD520. The interior is exactly as the AZ6808 interior.

Now what I don't understand is that second, narrow flat ribbon cable in the AZ6829. One end is plugged into a white post (which is missing in the AZ6808, but the white rectangle outline is there), but the other end seems to plug somewhere in the pickup mechanism.

It is impossible for this ribbon cable to be plugged into the moving part (laser block) since it doesn't have enough flex in it to move with the pickup. So it must be plugged into an immobile point.

Such point I cannot find in the AZ6808. As per the AZ6829 interior shot of this thread, comparing to this included picture, that extra thin ribbon seems to plug just under the N20DP motor... which is nothing.

There are also a couple of extra caps. There are unoccupied capacitor spaces on both the AZ6808 and AZ6829 boards (empty white circles with a white stripe on one hole to indicate polarity).

According to pics that I found, the AZ6829 does not have more controls, nor terminals, than the AZ6808.

Chips are the same.

So where does that ribbon go, and what does it do.

Anybody have an AZ6829 and wouldn't mind taking some interior shots?
