The cards are 64gb Kingston - they worked (and work - I checked) just fine in my AK100. I tried rebooting and even a factory reset but the problem remains I'm afraid.

I noticed one of the firmware updates on the AK100 mentioned fixing card reading issues, but then I'd have thought this would have been inc in V1 for the '120... I've been in touch with Jaben and they're going to contact A&K about it - maybe I just have a dud one.

As for the brown case, I cannot like it  I looked at the A&K100 OEM original but it looked dreadful quality - like I'd made it in beginners leatherwork class. The Dignis one from Korea is far superior quality, albeit not quite so protective - talking of which, I'd be well p1$$ed off with such a blatant copy of my work by the supposed Italians who make the brown one!

I concur with the upgrade advice too - we are well into the law of diminishing returns here ie doubling the money for a relatively incremental sonic gain - what I wanted to achieve was what I'd originally hoped for with the AK100, namely to have great sound in a small package. When I noticed a post on here with it strapped to the Vorzugge Pure (that I also have) I realised the pair is better - but they are rather cumbersome IMO. Hence the AK120 gives me what I want - more power and quality in a small unit. Of course, I may be back to square one when temptation gets the better of me and I plug the amp in!

Either way, the AK100 is for sale, and the VZ Pure too, probably.

Andy

That's a shame, I actually like the AK100 and Pure with the FitEar customs, I think I read you have the MH334 on that thread?

Oh yes, AK100/Pure/334s sounds great and I was (and remain) hugely impressed with each and the set (rig) Having gone iPhone 4 then 5 with the Pure (FLAC player) the above setup was more compact and looked really cool, but was still a faff to carry around - sadly, life is full of compromises and for me, convenience is important. Hence the AK120 is a positive step up, even in brown

Agreed on the brown case.  I had a black dignis for my AK100 and I was really hoping the "italian hand crafted case" will blow me away as much as AK120's sound.  Wrong.  It wasn't bad per se and the leather they picked seems quality and craftsmanship is ok tho nothing special.  My biggest gripe is that the relatively soft and smooth surface (similar to ones on gucci wallets) of the case got scratched way too easily - even the edge of memory wire on my TG334 managed to cut a few marks on it!   I would rather have something like the classic LV monogram type leather that's tough as nail and keep going in pristine condition for years if not decades.

I'm getting a dignis as soon as they have it for AK120.  For perspective buyers, if there is a cheaper standalone version without the leather case, go for that instead.

Actually those leathers are designed to age in such manner , what you see is queit normal. With age those marks will provide the leather its so called character.

Character huh....

You are sounding like those Leica chaps bragging about their chrome Ms brassing:

I really think it's a rather poor choice to go with uncoated leather surface. I should have been more prudent and treat it with some leather protector first. The good thing though is that this leather case coating thing is the only complain I have with the AK120.

I did say:

In regard of the case I have noticed that part of it is fragile and requires care but the leather used will age nicely. I do not have any major issue however I do wish they provided their other case which has a protection face cover instead of the brown one provided.

The entire point of this case is to protect the main body from scratch, it will do that to a large extend however it will not way provide the same protection as an otter box. The reason why I like this leather is because I have had similar kind of leather before and I know how they will turn out in 3-5 years time, I personally like how they will age, some don't.

And, if all there is to gripe about is the case, it suggests the product itself is sound!

(Reaches for player to restart.....)
... And this roll of the SD card lottery gives - No SD cards...

See you soon!

(Restart)
... this roll of the SD card lottery gives - Two SD cards both with music, bingo!
(Ad infinitum)

Looks like mine is going back to be replaced

Stonemanty,

I have exactly the same problems as you describe with my AK120 recognizing the SD cards. Also using Kingston 64Gb cards.
Restarting multiple times eventually solves issue but what a waste of time!
Any advice or findings on how to solve this would be truly appreciated.

sorry guys for the slow update, i am still getting familiar with the sound and I am waiting for the firmware update to be release so I can see if few minor audio issues I am having is going to be solved or not and ofcourse I have to wait and see how the USB feature is going to be.

Hopefully the amp is going to be here by end of the month.

Hi Heyyeh

Agreed, it's a right royal pain in the arse and certainly not what I expect from and expensive item like this.  I spoke to Jaben HK last week and they said they would contact iRiver about it - I haven't had the chance to follow up on the issue, but I will and will update here.

I expect I'll have two options - live with it for now, or wait for the next batch to arrive from Korea.  Very frustrating!

regards
Andy
