[REVIEW] Aurisonics ASG-2 & 2.5 (with many comparisons)

As a couple of people have asked about lead times: I ordered a custom unit on the 10th, and was advised they would probably be done sometime this week and shipped quickly thereafter. So that means 7-12 days plus shipping, looking at the calendar. Hope this helps!

My experience was the opposite, with every tip emphasizing the treble except for one.

Was that your experience as well Eke?

The ASG-2 treble seems to be quite dependent on canal shape + fit.

I thought the 4.Ai were top-tier, with the se534, sm64, W3, W4 ect. Are the ASG-2 really that large a notch above those?
 
I guess it makes sense considering they are being compared to $1k+ headphones - although price doesn't always indicate performance.

Honestly, I found the 4.ai overpriced and overhyped, similar to the SE535...though it's better than the SE535.
 
IMO, the 4.Ai, GR07, SE535, UM3X, EX600, etc all sit in the same general performance bracket. Above that you have the H-200, ASG-1.2 (treble EQ), RE-272, etc. Unfortunately the price skyrockets when you look at the performance bracket above that. That's why i find the ASG-2 to be such a bargain, since it belongs in that upper performance bracket without sharing the large price increase..

I have so far topped out at the 4.Ai.  It's my favorite IEM to date.  For IEMs thus far I've tried a dozen ranging from $100-600, mostly Heir and Hifiman.  I will likely be looking further up the IEM food chain at some point so this thread is useful for me.  
 
For me, the 4.Ai is a much better IEM than the RE-272.  It just works well for me.  At the time maybe I wasn't hearing the 272 at it's best.  I would agree that at the original asking price of $200-250 (I forget now) the 272 was not severely overpriced.  The 262 was a more visceral IEM for me so I ended up keeping that one.  Over-hyped, well what isn't on this website

.  Didn't know 4.Ai was more hyped than anything else here.  Any chance I'd like the ASG-2 as a fan of the 4.Ai?  Any dealers offer a loaner?     
 
Didn't see a link for the ASG-2 non-custom on the Aurisonics website.  Do I need to call them to order the ASG-2?

During my 15-20 mins that I have with the demo ASG-2, I also found that treble on them is a bit recessed compared to the 334.
I was using the stock bi-flange tips and stock cable on the ASG-2.
For 334, even with the stock black tips or the V-Moda white medium tips (orange core), I find they have better treble compared to the G-2.
If I have the chance, I would love to audition the G-2 again at my own sweet time.

Can't compare to 334, but the treble on the ASG-2 on my audition fixed the issues on the ASG-1, but still below the neutral line (personally, I still feel the treble did what it should though without any major issues).

Wow. It's amazing to me that anyone would hear it like that. Still, I can't pretend to hear things like you do.

Another person, Idsynchrono, will get to hear my ASG-2 vs his own 334 tomorrow in a cafe. We'll see what he thinks then.

I mean in technicalities. Sound signature preferences go a long way in perceiving which iem is better.

Dale and Andy have also been hitting up a series of shows and meets recently, so it might be worth asking if they'll be coming to your area anytime soon. That's how I got to listen to them anyway.

How is the bass valve held in place. Can you screw it completely off or does it have an internal stopper? Would it be possible to 3D print a custom valve? Maybe the entire face plate and mess with vent placement/shape/size?



P.S. that pic makes it look like a matte black, I like it.

A 3D printer and a soldering gun and we'll all be 3D printing our own IEMs soon. :D

Seriously though, it would need to be printed to a pretty good tolerance most likely if you had a solid design down to even start with, the valve I mean.

And that's just a render. Not a very realistic one but that probably wasn't the point. Looks like it came from solidworks lol.



Hmmm... I have access to a pretty high quality 3D scanner all of a sudden... I wonder if a manufacturer from a different industry would mind milling some odd stuff...
