Forgive me for this, but I've put a little polish on my review and I'm mildly pleased with it. If you haven't had a look yet, I'd appreciate more feedback. I totally want to do more of these...

Nice review. Just realized you're in Saigon. I'm waiting anxiously for my X5 ... Due "next week", according to the shop.

Is it all right to keep it as USB DAC running the entire day, as the screen will always be on, and always charging?

Crap. Enjoying my X5, listening to 'The Dark Knight Rises' soundtrack (ALAC ripped from CD), and BAM!! The X5 freezes.

I was hoping to get away from this annoyance that has plagued me for the past year with the X3. I have gapless playback on (which still has gaps) listening through line out to my e12. Please Fiio, pretty please, fix your gapless playback. I find with the X3 it usually freezes when listening and browsing through categories at the same time. That's also what I was doing when the X5 froze.

In the meantime I'll just keep resetting when necessary to enjoy the great sound. I'm a sucker for punishment I guess.

Just thought I'd add that I can't confirm it was gapless playback that caused the X5 to freeze and lock up but it's exactly what happens to my X3 with gapless enabled.

yes, for gapless, need to load the next sound track into the ram so somtimes it may has trouble .

James, may I suggest for the X7 you provide more RAM in the player so you avoid such problems. This seems to be one of the major complaints people have against Fiio's DAPs, which are otherwise great.

Hi James,
A suggestion of an improvement. Is it possible for the X5 to cache the next track of an album or playlist WHILE the current track track is playing before it has reached the end.? 99.9% of the time the next track of an ablum or playlist is the one to play next. Only if you manually change tracks it will not be the next track of an album?

@James - any plans to add more bass enhancement? Something like Rockbox did - they added the 10band EQ + additionally Bass adjustment (it boosts great both sub and midbass). The basshead in me is craving for mor bass (EQ is not enough ). Although I have the E11, I don't like it's bass boosting - it crawls too strong into the mids.

Great, here I have been waiting for the X5 and or the DX90 and you let this cat out of the bag.
Is there any estimated release period for the X7 or is it a product that is still being researched?
 
Wanting a new DAP, but if I am going to be investing the money in one may as well get it with the ability to utilize my Google Music subscription.
